Artur Soares Dias : Granada vs Man Utd
« on: Thu 08 Apr 2021 20:51 »
Unimpressed with the first half offerings by Dias , inconsistent  seems unwilling to book Granada players , there was 2 or 3 fouls committed by Granada players after Pogba’s booking which should have been YC but none forthcoming yet went on to book McTominay correctly but the YC for Shaw was nonsense

Hope he has a much better second half and shows his ability

Dave, I'm glad it wasn't just me.  Inconsistent completely understates that performance.  How we ended that first half with 3 YCs for United and none for Granada is a mystery!!

IMO Dias didn’t fare much better in the second half another nonsense YC given to Matic ,  quick to book Utd players but didn’t book Granada players for similar fouls or worse also he doesnt seem to play advantages , on the plus side no appeals for the penalty awarded and I didn’t see anything wrong real time but upon seeing the replay it was a good spot by Dias ,

Overall not a referee I would like to see in charge of Utd again anytime soon or England at the Euro’s if he goes

We have had some really sloppy performances from three elite officials across the UCL and UEL this week.

Unfortunately two officials  have had poor performances in front of important observers... one of which was in front of Dallas.

Frankly I was just relieved United won and we kept 11 players on the pitch.  When he finally carded a Granada player for that foul on James, (mind you, if he hadn't, I think serious questions would have been asked of Mr Dias), I hoped it was a sign of an improvement.  However, we then had the Matic YC while a couple of Granada players escaped sanction.  I think the YC count finished 5-2 which in my view was hardly a reflection of the type of fouls that occurred over 94 minutes.  I hope it was just a bad night for Dias as he didn't strike me as elite material on that performance.

Must admit I didn't really spot the incident for the penalty even on replay but VAR seemed happy.

I thought he was abysmal for the reasons outlined above!

I'm surprised that performance hasn't drawn more comments on here if folk saw it.  A good friend of mine, not a United supporter by any stretch of the imagination, called it disgraceful. Mind you, he wasn't convinced by the penalty award either although I did point out the contact seemed to do some damage to Fernandes left eye.

Do I gather from TTFL's post above that Ekberg wasn't too impressive at the Emirates?

While I accept there are some excellent European referees such as Cakir, Kuipers and Skomina, and that last night may not have been representative of Dias's ability, it does make me wonder whether at times we are a bit hard on our PL referees.

I was referring to Hategan and Brych... Ekberg was excellent in his tie.

Ah, apologies. I hadn't noticed that Dallas was Observing Hategan on Tuesday as well as Ekberg on Thursday.
