Artur Dias - Hungary v England
« on: Sat 04 Jun 2022 17:33 »
I notice Dias has a ‘Euro-tattoo’ (Euro 2020?) — similar to Clattenburg’s — albeit on his left tricep…

Very disappointing that despite the majority of the Hungarian crowd, notably being youngsters being accompanied by teachers and guardians, the taking of the knee was booed out once again.

That is a soft penalty given by Soares Dias, unfortunately VAR wasn’t coming in to overrule.

The card to Reece James was very harsh too….

Terrible decision never a penalty. I’ve personally never rated him

I thought it was a penalty, he stuck his arm up and stopped him running towards the ball.  Not sure it needed a card but I think the penalty was right.

It was soft and the caution was very harsh. Dias must have been bored.

I’m passionate about my country as anyone.

But - Penalty 100%

Didn’t need to wrap around around shoulder/neck ! Clear pen, soft if people wish to call it soft.

Caution maybe one step too far, but this is not the PL, and in Portugal/Spain/South America you’re usually see a yellow go with that type of award.

Didn’t have much to do, but What he did do, he did well. A safe performance but hardly a challenge.

Soft penalty awarded as some say not wrong, but personally I wouldn’t have given it.
What goes around for England as they have benefitted from equally soft penalties in the last 2-3 years

Not a penalty, and referees giving them are just encouraging players to go to ground if they feel any contact.  Yes there was contact, but it absolutely did not force him to the ground.

Hand over his shoulder, holding him down, elbow on his neck and pushes him down as he's leaning on him.

Keep your hands to yourself and you don't give away stupid penalties - it's that simple!

In relation to the penalty, as is said in Australia... a soft boiled egg is still a boiled egg.
The booing by the Hungarian children is disgraceful but sadly not unexpected in eastern Europe where racism appears to be alive and virulent.

If it's not wrong to award it, should it not be? A decision is either correct or incorrect and in my opinion, shouldn't be avoided just because some might think it harsh. As for players going to ground easily, which they do, "Live by the sword, Die by the sword" as the saying goes.

As long as a soft boiled egg is given to everyone then there is no discussion, unfortunately it is too inconsistent,  more so with referees of lower competence .
