Anthony Taylor Man Utd vs Newcastle

Have to say not a good performance by Taylor ,  his foul detection was wayward and he made a couple of GK/corner kick decisions wrong most notably a Newcastle FK hit a utd player to go behind for a corner it was so clear I don’t know how Taylor or Nunn missed it and gave a GK

No issues with YC’s shown but not the high standard expected of Taylor

Not just a corner kick, Young deflected it behind with an abnormal position arm.

Also Peter Walton saying UTD should have had a penalty because the ball struck a Newc players hand which was by his side.  ??? ???

Not impressed with Taylor at all tonight. Foul detection random, inconsistent with yellow cards notably clear cynical pull- by young and then a foul on matic on half way to stop breakaway attack not cautioned but then shaw gets yellow on ht for same foul.
Both sides should have had a penalty and how he he gave a gk when it comes off young is beyond me- it’s no handball then definitely a corner.
Oh, What on earth did Ritchie get cautioned for?

The MOTD commentator pointed out that Taylor was looking at the goings-on in the penalty area rather than the ball and thus missed seeing the ball strike Young from the free kick before going behind for a corner. I can understand this, the penalty area being the more important place to be looking as a free kick comes over. If Nunn was on the far side, he could not have helped Taylor with this one, and Taylor might have got more help from the AR on the nearside. Either way, I don't think Taylor is entirely blame-worthy for this particular wrong decision.

Fair point AT, but even if the hand ball was missed for arguably a valid reason, surely one of the officials should have spotted it was a corner.

That aside, I tend to agree with comments that he was inconsistent with YCs. Was at the game and it was certainly entertaining and, if you were a United fan, exciting.

Incidentally AT, I see Michael Oliver was flourishing YCs at Palace.  Any views?

Well, he got perhaps the biggest moment of the game horribly wrong by missing a clear penalty.

In some ways, you can understand the officials prioritising any grappling in the penalty area but someone has to be watching the ball - what if they'd taken it short for instance?

His positioning for the free kick was unacceptable (L6/7 stuff), especially considering the wall was inside the penalty area.
....unless he had asked his 4O to keep his eyes on, which he obviously failed to do.

How would the fourth official have been able to see the handball from the halfway line?
