Anthony Taylor: Everton v Bournemouth
« on: Mon 14 Jan 2019 09:43 »
The commentators on SKY were going on about how upset the Everton fans were with Mr Taylor.  Personally, I would have been rather upset were I a Bournemouth supporter - and I know there are one or two on here!

They could have had a penalty in the first half, perhaps a 50-50 with some referees giving it.  Then, near the end, neither Taylor nor his team were apparently looking at a incident involving Gomes (more of him shortly) that in my view should have been a penalty and might even have finally exhausted Taylor's leniency towards him.

After getting a YC, Gomez committed two other fouls.  The second was minor and by itself didn't warrant a second yellow, but given the position of the first foul and the attacking Bournemouth player, I was surprised he was not sent off at that stage.  Apparently, it's 22 PL games since Anthony Taylor produced a red card and I'm just wondering if there have been incidents in his previous games where he has stretched leniency beyond reasonable.

So one, possibly two, penalties not given and opponents should have been down to 10 men for the latter part of the game.  I might have been a little upset had I travelled 250 miles to support my team.

I didn't watch, I got the kick off time wrong & thought it was the later game! Didn't seem to be too much vitriol on twitter from our fans Mr Taylor's way, most was aimed at our team & manager. This 99.9% from Johnny come latelys who were nowhere in sight when we were a league 2 team, will be nowhere to be seen again if we ever get relegated as they'll be back to being lifelong Man U/Chelsea/Spurs etc. Our fans who have been around more than 5 mins seem to just be shrugging the result off, say we played well and with a bit of luck could have forged a result, accepted the 50-50, and a bit of whinging about no defenders bought in the Jan window!!!

AFCB historically rarely win in Jan or Feb, a section of our fans whine bitterly about the lack of Jan signings and we are all doomed, then March to May we are aces and world champions! Been this way since time began!
Hajrá Lilák. Csak a Kispest. Hajrá Magyarok! Hajrá játékvezetői csapat! Soha ne add fel. Nincs sárga kérem!!! No Chris Kavanagh doesn't live in Ashton or even in the Greater Manchester area!!

He did appear to be strangely out of sorts.  Gomez could definitely have gone, although there is an argument to say that any previous fouls are reset once the caution is issued, so it would be harsh to caution him for persistent after 1 or 2 fouls.  Everton just seemed to be a bunch of angry men all game, hence their five cautions.

Surely resetting the previous fouls after a yellow card is only right if the caution was itself for persistently infringing in which case, if the referee is being consistent, the player should be afforded the same amount of persistent fouling as he was granted for the first yellow before a second yellow/red is shown.

If the caution was for a single bad challenge (or something unrelated to fouls) then the previous infringements should still be on record ?

Yes, I'd agree.  His earlier transgressing were all handbags rather than fouls and he was cautioned for grabbing the ball for a second time.  For what I recall his fouling offences only started after that.
