Andy Woolmer Ipswich v Sheffield utd
« on: Sat 22 Dec 2018 21:00 »

If there was any justice in the world, at this time of the year former postie, Andy Woolmer would be back to pounding the streets of Northampton delivering presents and cards. Not that I have any confidence in him delivering them correctly. Virtually all the presents would be taken to the big red and white house near the top of the road with nothing for the little blue house at the bottom of the road. Cards will be delivered randomly and inconsistently and any red ones will be left back in the sorting office.

Staggeringly poor performance and for the second Saturday running the feelgood factor currently in evidence at Portman Road was only marred by a short, bald man in black who I thought was struggling with the concept of even-handed refereeing. Presumably there's an unwritten rule regarding how teams at the bottom of the league are to be treated.

He was dreadful last week at Doncaster and almost lost control of the game at one point. I'm surprised he's entrusted with Championship games.

Although I have not seen Andy live since he became a SG2 ref, I must admit I share your thoughts nemesis. Andy is (I think) third oldest on the list and has spent a sizeable chunk of time out of action, presumably because of injury. With that in mind, I don't think he should be refereeing on the Championship, and I certainly don't believe that he should be given Championship games simply because he is SG2. I don't know what the answer is, but I would hope that, like the other postie Brendan Malone, Andy will realise his time is up and retire gracefully at the end of the season.

PS Is Andy a postie? I thought he was a gas man, or am I thinking of that other icon of north of London refereeing, Mick Russell?

Yes AT he is a postie.  The one steady thing with him is he has always had excellent fitness, I've not seen him live in a few years now but reading on here it's always been remarked upon - before this season at least. When someone goes from being one of the top to one of the bottom then it really is time they had a rethink.

My post would have looked pretty silly if he were a gas man.

A misdirected letter or two is one thing, but if you have a gas fitter as incompetent as him the consequences don't bear thinking about !

He has actually only had one serious injury in the last decade or so, which led to him finishing one season early and starting the next one late. His fitness was the least of my concerns yesterday.

He was a strange choice for SG2, as stated at the time.

Having witnessed the match yesterday I just knew when I logged on there would be a post from you regarding this match. Agree with everything you say. 2 consecutive matches where the refereeing performance has been grossly incompetent.

I can’t disagree with what I have read here.

Having suffered half of Woolmer’s Championship matches this season I can only conclude that he is not up to the job (to put it mildly).
