I thought he was superb today, real top notch performance in probably one of his biggest games to date.

And just 2 cards issued when he could have been tempted to hand out more. Cannot believe how poor United were.

I couldn’t agree more. Andy Madley has certainly established himself as being in that next bracket after Oliver and Taylor and can clearly be trusted with any game now.

I’m just waiting for someone to say how that wasn’t a challenge with it being 7-0. Before anyone does please let’s remember that Liverpool v Man United is Liverpool v Man United haha.

Excellent performance and whilst one or two I am sure will disagree on here I have to say there must have been something in the Madley water as they grew up as that’s both that have proven themselves as excellent referees at the highest level.

Very impressive from Madley sums it up eloquently.

It was disappointing that Fernandez hitting the AR was not sanctioned.  A number of parks referees will get thumped next weekend and you can draw a direct causal relationship between these events.

In addition, the number of occasions when players of both sides (well all professional sides actually) have feigned injury in order to get an opponent into trouble is on the rise.  In this game, a Manchester United player attempted to do this after about 75 minutes when they were (only) 4-0 down.  Lets imagine that - in a parallel universe - this attempt at deception was successful (both with the referee and VAR) and the Liverpool player was red carded.  It is highly unlikely that this act of deception would have changed the result, so why do it?  Its now the "leaned" response of a player to respond to any physical contact - however minimal - in this theatrical way.

If successfully deceiving a match official is punishable with a two-match ban, surely an unsuccessful attempt should attract the same sanction?  Or are we saying that while murder is a crime, attempted murder is not?

A couple of hours a week reviewing the weekend's games followed by two-match bans for the "feigners" would have this problem solved in six weeks.  But we know that it is not going to happen, because of the powers-that-be wanted that they would have empowered the match officials to deal with it.  And they have clearly done pretty much 100% the opposite.

As good as Madley was overall, once again I remain totally baffled as to what the obnoxious Fernandes needs to do to get booked; clearly pushing an A R and whinging at every decision isn’t enough. And that horrible little individual Mc Tominay was lucky not to see red for a nasty foul.
Still as long as we can continue to book players for the heinous crime of removing their shirts all is well 😡

The problem is Law 12 though and not the referee. This is the only bit that's mandatory yellow, the other are subjective decisions. There are several parts of the LOTG that I, and indeed I suspect all of us, disagree with but we can't blame the refs for them

Can't add much more to what has been said above. Looked confident, but not cocky, calm and in control.

Congrats to the team.

I didn’t agree that Madley was great today. How Shaw avoided a yellow for the challenge in front of AR1 or for persistent infringement would see a Level 4 lose marks from any Observer. His decision making was erratic, for example when Gakpo was held and I thought he was trying to play advantage but ended up giving a free kick to the away team. He missed a simple yellow when an away player clattered Konate as he cleared the ball in the penalty area late in the game. He also allowed the obnoxious Fernandes free rein to go through his full repertoire of dark arts unpunished.

Not impressed at all to be honest.

For anyone who hasn't seen the push on the AR by the Utd player

I think the commentator summed up Madley towards the end when it was said he wasnt looking for trouble ie sanctions may have inflamed the situation.
It wasnt an easy game to control, personally i thought Madley navigated it quite well, a decent performance but not excellent.

Sadly left down refereeing when failing to RED CARD Bruno Fernandez for putting a hand on an official…

I didn't see the match live but very worrying if a hand was laid on a match official and no sanction resulted. I did see Match of the Day and fortunately they did not show the incident but enough people would have seen it live to inspire copycat behaviour.

The only way Andy Madley would have known that Adam Nunn was pushed is if he was alerted to it. If he was then it was his fault for not dealing with it. If not it wasn't his fault and a UEFA Elite AR should really not be allowing that.

Won't even start on the rat that is Fernandes how he took so long to be booked I don't know.

Pause the video at 0:05 and you can see a knee high kick on Trent Alexander Arnold of the ball- then followed by the shove on Adam Nunn- who was first trying to control the situation. As for Dermot Gallagher who thinks this is mitigation, he should be fired.

Thats 2 red cards. What planet was Coote on in the VAR box.
