Quote from sky sports website.

Referee charity wanted five-game Fernandes ban
Ref Support UK chief executive Martin Cassidy:

“Just like someone doing a Ronaldo celebration or a Cruyff turn, children will mimic what they see on TV.

“We’re talking about a world class official being pushed in the back here. Fernandes behaved like an entitled child.

“The onus is certainly on the FA. They have all the evidence in front of the to send a real strong message across all football that touching a match official in this way is totally unacceptable.

“We believe it should be five games for this.”

Quote from Martin Cassidy - Liverpool supporter.

I’ve now seen the Fernandes contact with the AR and despite my total dislike for a player who constantly brings the game into disrepute I don’t think there’s anything to punish. It’s not as it’s been reported in some of the other media reports.

I saw this on a collection of Fernandes’ contributions on Sunday. He committed two clear yellow card offences (simulation when challenging Alisson, reckless challenge on Konate) and arguably a third for persistent infringement and/or dissent but wasn’t cautioned in the game. He wasn’t the only away player somehow indulged by Andy Madley yet people are praising the Referee’s performance. I maintain he had a poor game.

Indeed there were several Liverpool players in the same boat 👍

Anthony Taylor last night chose not to issue a second yellow card preferring to keep 11 v 11. If an excellent official like him is unwilling to issue cards I can only assume that the powers that be have indicated that cards are better left in pockets. A relatively inexperienced referee is not going to stick his neck out to issue cards.
Perhaps it is the case now that what we as spectators see as a yellow is no longer a yellow. There will be many like me who would like to see sterner punishment for cynical or petty offences but it isn't going to happen.
Andy Madley was not the talking point and that from a referring perspective is a good outcome.

Peter Walton in today's Times arguing forcefully and cogently for a red card and a three match ban on demerit and citing the effect a non-punishment will have on grassroots refereeing. The notion that anyone in the Premiership hierarchy gives a tinker's toss about the game lower down is risible. They are simply selling a ( successful ) product and will instruct referees to operate in such a way that maximum income is generated.

Completely culpable in my view are the Football Association which I have long termed the Sweet FA.  When one thinks that the forebears of this generation of place men and women did genuinely seek to be the guardians of the game even if they made some terrible mistakes, as with their treatment of women's football in the 1920s and for many years beyond that, the craven attitude of the present administrators is all the more shameful.

Madley was fine but the yellow for mctominay was a joke. Clearly plays the ball, the follow through is an obvious natural occurrence when sliding in.

The 1990s just called and asked for their laws back.  The days of being able to wipe out an opponent as long as you win the ball first are long gone.  If the referee deems that the challenge was reckless, in that the follow through was always going to make contact with the opponent and risks injury, it is still a caution if the ball is won first.

Not the 1990's  -any decade of Association Football

So Ivan Toney's challenge on Sasa Lukic last night where he didn't win the ball but followed through on to the opponent's face (causing a nasty laceration) should have been punished with yellow or red?

I personally dont like the route the pgmol are going down with regard to managing a game. Sanctions should not be overlooked, failing to issue cautions be it the first yellow or second and dismissals just to keep 11 v 11 on the field sends the wrong impression to both fans, players and the grassroots football. Players will push the boat as far as they can if they know they wont get the deserved sanction. The teams who are offended against suffer as they should be playing against one fewer player, the teams who play against the player in subsequent games have to play against a player who should be suspended.

Lastly managing these games and not sanctioning correctly give rise to teams and supporters feeling their team are not getting the rub of the green.

Like as Mr Scudamore was reported as saying -

https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11661/10530515/richard-scudamore-aims-for-new-premier-league-winners-every-six-years

"Executive chairman Richard Scudamore says the Premier League has a "strategic plan" to enable more clubs to win the title."?
