Impressed with Mr Ekberg. Looked to use the advantage when possible, good foul detection. Good night all round.

One to watch to see if he can follow in the footsteps of Eriksson.

I hope that Mr Ekberg, who looked promising tonight, does better than Mr Eriksson, whose officiating in the Man City v Barcelona game was one of the most one-sided I have had the misfortune to see from a European official at the Etihad.

Seems harsh to judge Jonas Eriksson on just one match.

I thought he had an excellent career overall and delivered many impressive performances; if Ekberg officiates at three major international tournaments, including a semi-final at one, and does the Europa League final and Champions League semi-finals then he'll have done very well!

Hopefully you don’t include his handling of the Man City v Barcelona game in the ‘many impressive performances’ category.

Naturally I’ve seen Mr Eriksson in televised fixtures and was expecting something better on the basis of them.

"Seems harsh to judge Jonas Eriksson on just one match" would seem to suggest that Readingfan accepts that the performance in the Man City game was not impressive. I too share Readingfan's estimation of Eriksson; over the years he has been one of Europe's best officials delivering many extremely good performances. Of course, pretty much every referee who ever lives will have one or two very poor performances and if that involves a team you support then it is very easy to make an overall career judgement on the one match and perceived injustices done to your team. However Boz makes no comment at all about the televised fixtures other than on the basis of them, s/he expected Eriksson to perform better in the Man City match thereby suggesting, at least, that the televised performances were good.

As noted on this site I was very impressed with this referee at Hibernian in the Europa League in July.  I hope he can go a long way and wish him every success.  Unfortunately I didn't see the game last night but Pat Nevin was very complimentary on the bit of radio coverage I heard.
