My memories of Alan Turvey will not be fond ones, but sad nevertheless to report that he passed away this morning. Condolences to family and friends. RIP

Thanks for this nemesis. I don't think I ever saw Alan in action on the field, but I do know that he worked tirelessly in football after he came off the FL list, and his death will be mourned by many. RIP Alan.

Indeed, my condolences too.  Although my recollections of Mr Turvey are not particularly favourable of his refereeing abilities, we shouldn't forget that those we criticise are only human and are surely trying to do their best and have family and friends who will mourn their passing.  Indeed, if they appear to be promoted beyond their apparent level of competence, the fault is not theirs but lies with those who appoint them.

Alan Turvey was a Football League referee from 1973 to 1978. For me (and I imagine many other football followers) he deserves great credit for being the only member of an FA Panel to oppose Wimbledon's move to Milton Keynes and the formation of MK Dons - a move which usurped the original club's place in the Football League.
