He has fallen down a dangerous deep hole. Gave yellow cards out early on then decided to not use it for clear yellows for a period and now they're back out for anything remotely close to a yellow

Players starting to get frustrated. Can't blame them to be honest.

5 yellows in the first half, couple been soft (Wilson & Nketiah), rest were correct but looks like he is starting to loose control a bit here and made a rod for his back giving the two early soft yellows

Yeah he is losing control big time it’s as if every foul is a yellow

The players are certainly trying to referee the match and are giving Madley a torrid time so far

No way is Wilson's yellow soft, have you seen the replay?

The lack of reaction against Newcastle's repeated mobbing/dissent is really poor! All the five bookings were rightly issued but the deeper SPA/lack of respect calls for Nketiah and Ødegaard, he was blatantly influenced by the protests and wouldn't have given them otherwise. PGMOL refereeing is risable in many regards, and this is one of the worst. Newcastle have been too clever and cute for Madley tonight (the same I'd imagine as Leeds/Hooper at the weekend). With such poor officiating, you can't blame teams for employing such tactics - they work!!

Not watched a game Madley has done for a while but he just looks weak here.  A few of the yellows are ones that are down to judgement, nothing wrong but a couple he could have kept in his pocket, but he's overthinking and allowing himself to be led.  Maybe the biggest game he's done and needs to calm down and be a bit more authoritative in my view.

The cards for reckless were obviously correct ffs (Guimarães, Wilson, Xhaka). The cards for tactical fouls were so deep on the pitch that many PGMOL refs would have ignored them, and Madley was going to, until he was influenced by Newcastle mobbing! But they were justified. Neville is talking rubbish tonight... but Madley has been too weak as well and the Newcastle players are playing him very well!

An extremely difficult to game to referee, not just with the atmosphere in the stadium. Madley has handled it very well so far, despite the drivel coming out of the mouths of the commentators. Fully in control, but also trying to let a few things go but proving to be difficult. All 5 yellows absolutely correct.

Best I've seen Madley referee and in a very important game too. Just needs to keep it up for the 2nd half.

Arsenal have been just as bad at mobbing and playing the referee

I think Madley hasn't done anything wrong to be fair all yellows correct, maybe one or two given because of both teams surrounding him but overall has been good

Correct to give a foul on Wilson but no second yellow card for Xaxha

Did Madley just violate the laws by giving a dropped ball to Newcastle as an obstructing-the-ball decision (should ofc by IFK to other team)?!? The game could be ordered replayed because of that! :D
