Terrible start by Madley in not penalising more harshly the Martinelli assault on Mitoma. Even VAR didn’t have a secondary look at it.

Also Caicedo not carded for a foul on Martinelli.

He could easily lose control of this very quickly because of the poor start.

WOW

Not even 8 minutes gone and two very poor challenges gone unpunished, one for each team.

Not a good start

Arsenal V Brighton - A Madley

Must have left his cards at home, missed two really obvious yellow cards in the first 8 minutes

If he keeps letting tackles like those go he is going to lose control of this pretty quickly

Absolutely. This could get nasty from here.

No sanction for Martinelli for an awful challenge, so Caicedo appears to have taken out his own sanction, also unpunished. I’m all for letting things go as much as possible, but there must be a limit.

There worst thing is there's so many threads started over these poor decisions that I don't which one thread to respond to and agree with!

A call to arms for bmb to do a bit of merging!

Sadly this now appears to be the norm. Some challenges. Both stated are minimum YC. Mr Madley just smiles and ushers players away. If neither of those challenges warranted sanction. I dread to think what a player has to do to get one, probably something minor

Xhaka proper shouting at Madley and he just walks away

No wonder lower league refs get no respect when people who do this professionally for a living just ignore blatent dissent

He’s just booked a Brighton player. I can only imagine it’s for an accumulation of fouls (it’s his second?) as I didn’t see a yellow card in that foul!!

Estupinan booked for his second foul. Madley held up three fingers. Sums up his day so far.

One of the poorest performances I’ve seen in a while in the first half and that’s being kind.

Even another Hatzidakis goof at the end of the first half adds to the mix.

The assistant has just given offside from a throw in! Waved down my Madley.

It was Estupinan’s third foul, his second was about 15 seconds before the one he was booked for.

Both were lucky, both warranted a yellow minimum but both could of walked easily to and there wouldn’t be any complaints if Martinelli did get a red but then Caicedo should of then walked for his retaliation challenge although wouldn’t of been made had Martinelli been sent off
