A M MATEU LAHOZ - Wales v Ukraine
« on: Sun 05 Jun 2022 18:16 »
The early card seemed to settle things down and it’s been fairly easy for Lahoz.

VAR came in for a penalty check when Allen went through the back of Yarmolenko but it was deemed accidental. I would say however that those kind of challenges have been deemed a spot kick in the past.

Oh and he is in yellow too! 🙌👏

Will just say it's more of a penalty than the one Hungary got yesterday.

I think it should be a penalty. Lahoz and the Spanish VAR's continue to not impress.

Think Ukraine has been quite hard done by - looked a certain penalty to me and not sure why VAR didn't intervene. A few other marginal calls have gone Wales' way too.

Think he’s handled the match well with the exception of his complete ignorance to James taking a battering , another thing that doesn’t sit well is his little pat and a calm down to the Ukrainian coach when he got over ex but rob page gets an immediate yellow card for reacting when James was clearly fouled .
My views are my own and not that of rate the ref .

It was a soft boiled egg , still a boiled egg but not everyone gets them .

James takes a battering when there is nobody anywhere near him. He has been doing it all season, a light breeze seems to blow him over and then he goes OTT trying to get a decision. Embarrassing!
Well done to Wales and to Wayne Hennessey who today made only his third start of this year and made some excellent saves.
Referee's decision used to be final!

Lahoz is a strange referee who has an interesting style. Personally I have never really rated him as a referee. I don't really rate Carlos del Cerro Grande either to be honest, nor Gil Manzano.

I don't like how friendly referees are getting with the players, its alright to be smiling but giving hand shakes it too much, Lahoz did with Bale which is something I don't like.

Whats wrong with being friendly? handshakes are just a basic mark of respect, I'd rather have a friendly referee who smiles and talks to the players, than one that was distant and moody.

Being friendly is fine but shaking hands with a player while he is being subbed off isn't especially when you given their team a big decision. It also wastes time.

Thankfully I was on the other channel watching a red wearing Enea Jorgji put in a good performance in the Cyprus v Northern Ireland game, unlike my home nation team! They neither wore red nor did they perform well!

No boiled eggs either, soft or otherwise!
Hajrá Lilák. Csak a Kispest. Hajrá Magyarok! Hajrá játékvezetői csapat! Soha ne add fel. Nincs sárga kérem!!! No Chris Kavanagh doesn't live in Ashton or even in the Greater Manchester area!!

I have rarely found myself so conflicted. I desperately wanted Ukraine to win to give that poor unfortunate country some cheer and yet also appreciate what a fantastic achievement it is for Wales. In the end the capricious nature of football decided it and that is how it has to be.  Hopefully by the time the World Cup Finals start, Ukraine will have peace with honour and England will thrash Wales in the Group Stage although I'm by no means certain either of those will pertain.  Apologies to those in the Principality but I have to say I mean it !  And Mateu Lahoz ? Idiosyncratic in style and I thought it was a penalty kick for Ukraine but he wasn't demonstrably wrong. All in all reasonably satisfactory.

Remembering that he and Bale have crossed paths on numerous occassions in Spain, I thought it was more Bale saying thank you/well done as any overtly friendly gesture by the referee. I actually think his interactions with players helps his management, as he certainly does use the full range of facial expressions 🤨😉😁😃

Hackett was mightily impressed with Lahoz.
