Definitely correct offside call you reckon?

And yes, top performance by our no 1 official

Must have been correct as VAR said so 🤔🤪

The best I have seen Michael Oliver perform this season. Back on top form it seems coming into the EURO.

Another offside given when the players were at least level. With no VAR there would have been no controversy with that decision and we would have all geared up for ET.

Leicester deserved that bit of luck and finally win the cup congratulations!

I said 'offside' when I saw the first replay of the incident and, in my view, VAR was correct to rule the goal out. Only millimetres in it but correct.

Totally agree. Offside with VAR is what it is and is (unusually in PL refereeing!) applied consistently.

The best I have seen Michael Oliver perform this season. Back on top form it seems coming into the EURO.

Let’s hope those responsible for appointing see that too.
If they had watched today’s game and the recent City v Chelsea and Utd v Liverpool games there could be no doubt who should be top of England’s pecking order. Trouble is one is an exceptional referee, the other one of Rosettis favoured few and so I very much suspect what will happen

I think Taylor will go far in the euros- maybe a QF. Oliver I think will be lucky to get a game after the GS unfortunately

Top class performance today from Oliver, in my eyes our no1 elite referee.
In Total control throughout, calm, collected and allowed the game to flow.
Kept a low profile, in fact hardly noticed him. Quickly pointed out to Tielemans his caution was for persistent infringements and wasnt influenced into binning him in the second half for a foul, yes just a foul, not a second yellow which the chelsea player attempted to make worse by his theatrics.
His only fault today would have put him on missy bmb’s naughty step along with Andre later in the evening.

I'd agree that is probably more likely. To be fair to Taylor, I think he has actually been better than Oliver in European competitions this season.

It is always a bit of a dilemma at these tournaments as to who should get the KO stage games. If there is an inexperienced referee who has done very well in the GS vs an experienced referee who has done very poorly then it is clear who goes home. And to be fair, they do seem to make the right choice in this case (e.g. Diedhiou refereeing in the KO stage over Brych in WC 2018).

Where it is more difficult is when an inexperienced referee performs well and an experienced referee performs just OK. In this case I think they tend to bank on experience (e.g. Cakir got a KO game in EURO 2016 while Turpin didn't).

Oliver I think is definitely in the mix for KO games without being a lock. In principle I think things should be open and the best performers get the KO stage matches but having said that, it is inconceivable to me that 2/3 of Brych, Cakir, Kuipers, Lahoz, Orsato, Turpin won't be assigned.

Yes, I agree, a confident, calm and efficient performance from Michael Oliver today.

To be fair to Anthony Taylor, although he was poor in his second Cup Final, he was very good in his first. Michael Oliver has put in good performances in both his.

As for Europe, from what I've watched and read, neither Taylor nor Oliver has had any major controversies in their games this season, or last season for that matter, but Taylor seems to get the higher profile games.

Personally, I still feel that Oliver looks the more natural referee in his style and I think he talks and communicates with players rather more than is sometimes obvious, which is why players seem to respect him. But he doesn't make a big show of it.

Oh, if it means anything, Oliver Hoult in the Mail gave him 8/10 today, certainly higher than the normal 6 referees tend to get.

An assured performance from our best Referee.

As we’ve entered a twilight zone where Assistants are told not to signal for what is their main responsibility we’ll never know if the flag would have gone up without VAR intervention. My guess is it would have; Assistants at this level spot that. We’ll never know.

Excellent goal but more inconsistency from VAR. The ball touched a Leicester arm in the build-up. At Tottenham Roberto Firminho had a goal disallowed because the ball touched his arm as Dier was attempting to take the shirt off his back.

VAR ruins the game as a spectacle. Get rid.

The best refereeing performance this season in my view and what a call from VAR. He is offside simple as that. Oliver was outstanding. Bravo to him and his team.

When is the play deemed to "stop" for offside because on the freeze frame where the lines were drawn the ball is clearly off the ground and in motion having already been kicked? If they had taken it back a frame or two would he have still been offside?

The ball touched a Leicester arm in the build-up.
Doesn't matter - it has to immediately lead to a goal or a goalscoring opportunity. It's come off Perez to another player, who's taken two touches before passing to Tielemans, who takes two touches before shooting - there's 7-8 seconds between it touching his arm and the goal.
