Many years ago, when we were travelling back from Rome to Glasgow, a delay to the incoming flight meant that for the Paris–Birmingham leg of what was a rather complicated journey we were upgraded to business class.  Here we had the honour of sharing our accommodation with Hugh Dallas, at the time still an active referee, who saw fit to grace the occasion not with a smart suit or blazer, but with a tracksuit.

"yukky" is the word bmb. That particular shade of green would flatter very few people and neither Andre Marriner nor Simon Hooper are among them.

Help me. I'm trying to think of any colour that would flatter Simon Hooper.

Purple! The old gorgeous purple shirt suited him and that lovely berry coloured one!

Bring back the purple shirts - they were lush!

I agree, the purple colour was pleasant. It seems to suit people who are meant to be in authority, County Court Judges and Referees !

I once knew a local league referee/clergyman who once conducted a wedding with his referee kit under his cassock, then travelled to the ground in the same dress (pun intended)

I don't think the colour is significant, but to flatter Mr Hooper I would propose a burqa.

It’s Bishops who wear purple in the Church of England. Imagine John Sentamu as the new Uriah Ronnie!

E was a well known referee who used this name when he wasn't suffering from indigestion.  :D
Referee's decision used to be final!

I am reminded of Roger Daltry's rendition of Man in a Purple Dress.
