Dominik Szoboszlai - after scoring two at RB Leipzig he visited the club his father created - and made him the player he is. It is in an amateur league but he doesn't forget where he came from.

The Federation are now publishing who the VAR team are as well.  They have updated the first 5 rounds with who they were as well.  They're still publishing the ref/4O & AR's the day before the match and adding in the VAR team about 1 hour/1 hour 30 mins before kick off.  I assume they are waiting until they are safely parked up in the ground before announcing them.  I can understand this & it's fair enough, our VAR's are mobile - one of that team will be driving the van to the ground, rather they and the van arrive safely. The van is a standard long wheelbase white van with no distinctive markings on the outside. At least the Federation is naming them now.

Not strictly relevant, but did the projected move to Latvia fall through? Or is it none of my business?

Not strictly relevant, but did the projected move to Latvia fall through? Or is it none of my business?

Nebojša took the job there in June/July & I am doing the welfare work for him as I did at Újpest.  It's all done via Skype/zoom right now. With covid I've not had the chance to visit there yet although last time I was home in Hungary, Nebojša was there for a couple of days so Mr bmb and I got to see him & his beautiful wife for a socially distanced coffee, which was nice.

Mr bmb & I are having to do some hard evaluating right now, he's been refused leave to remain in the UK, I've been refused it in Hungary (thanks brexit...) so we're having to do the whole no more than 3 months out of 6 (90 days in 180 to be exact) palava across both countries and in a pandemic with travel restrictions ever changing that has not been easy to put it mildly! Neither of us was even allowed to travel to the others country for several months last year, I think we ended up getting about 6 weeks in total together at most so we are trying to work on a solution now. It's easier for me to move as I can work remotely, he can't. His time off is restricted to summer & winter breaks n the football season & would normally just spend the whole time here but with mandatory quarantine, he's only been able to come for a week-10 days and then have to return so his quarantine period is up in time for the pre-season starting.  We're only about 35km away from the border with Romania so we are house hunting for somewhere as close to the border as possible on the Romanian side with the intention of me living 3 months in Hungary, 3 months in Romania and repeat. We're awaiting an ok from Romanian immigration if they will allow it. Our best bet would be an apartment in Nagykároly (Carei) which is about 70/80km from us.  The sticking point is me being disabled and requiring a carer. Although he would be able to travel back & forth, even with his job, in the winter a lot of those roads are closed off for weeks. We have very good friends in Nagykároly who would do my shopping (no online home deliver there) and check in on me daily to make sure I've not had a fall etc. Hopefully immigration will accept that as enough. The other alternative is for 3 months in Hungary, then 3 in Latvia and repeat.  I'd live with Nebojša in Latvia, which would solve the carer problem but then those 3 months Mr bmb would be limited to get there for more than a few days here & there and of course is depended on Nebojša remaining there longer term! Maybe we'll end up with 3 in Hungary, then 3 in Romania, 3 in Hungary and then 3 in Latvia!!  bmb jr would get a student visa and would be able to remain in Hungary as a student, Mr bmb & his family would look after him. I can't currently apply for citizenship in Hungary, aside of the fact I'd fail the language test right now, I have to be living there to do so & we go round in circles as they will only let me live there for 3 months in every 6 & I don't qualify for any of the visas that would let me stay full time! So for now it's 3 months in the UK, 3 months in Hungary and repeat until we find a better solution. Without covid he'd spend 4-6 days in every 14 here and I can do the full 3 months there but that's very disruptive for jr and his studies.  We'll find a solution but probably not until covid finally does one and we don't have those travel restrictions thrown into the mix!

I'm hoping to get out to Latvia for a couple of weeks before Christmas so I can meet the players face to face and go to a couple of games.  Right now I attend training most days via Skype but someone will just mute me & run off when I start lecturing them about their lack of on-field discipline

Just an update JCFC - we won our cup semi final today - plenty of celebrating together via zoom! Mr bmb was permitted to join the celebration as it is our anniversary!

Cup final is 24th October so now decisions to make as to Hungary or Latvia that weekend! Jr's birthday is on the 23rd, which is also 1956 Memorial Day/Republic Day, the biggest day in the Hungarian calendar - well actually the 2nd biggest after St Stephen's day, which is Hungary's official birthday & the state foundation/constitution day celebrated on 20th August. 1st celebrated in 1092, just in case you are interested!. King Saint Ladislaus I declared it a sacred day from that year. King Saint István was canonised 20.08.1083. He was crowned King on 25.12.1000 and died 15.08.1038. Changed to be called constitution day under communist occupation, it was reinstated as St Stephen's day in 1990. I digress... 26th October is St Dömötör day, unique to Hortobágy and the festival is normally the weekend closest to the 26th - this year it is on the 24th. I think we all know how upset I was at not being able to travel home for that last year. The borders were closed for St Georges Day in April, which Mr bmb was going to take me to as compensation for missing St.Dömötör day.  Now the cup final is on St.Dömötör Day!!

Any ideas how I can be in Hortobágy and Latvia on the same day! Flights between the 2 are between Budapest (2.5hr drive from Hortobágy) & Riga (3hr drive from Liepāja). Flight is 2hrs. I'm not going to manage to do both am I?

My comments last year...

Bit gutted this weekend, I am meant to be in Hungary right now, bouncing up and down with excitement ahead of the derby before travelling straight down to Hortobágy for St Dömötör Day tomorrow. I hate you coronavirus...

Mr bmb has promised to take me to Hortobágy on St George's Day on April 23 if the borders are open. Not quite the same as St Dömötör Day but a reasonable alternative! On St George's Day the csikós & herdsmen bring the grey cattle and the racka sheep out from the barns and take them onto the Hortobágy for the summer, St Dömötör Day is the day they return them from the Hortobágy to the barns for the winter. (Everywhere but the Hortobágy it happens on St Michaels Day in September). The festival itself has been cancelled but I was still going to go and sit my butt on the 9 hole bridge all day and watch them coming back in  :'(  Trying to persuade Mr bmb to go and get me one of the herdsman's coats! They are simply stunning!

I still want a szur coat! The herdsman's coats.

St Dömötör Day that I had to miss last week... I hate you covid-19

My men folk have spoken - Hungary it is! No cup final for bmb other than via TV & Skype! Jr will not consider anywhere but Hungary for his birthday, he has plans on Saturday evening apparently! Mr bmb is working that weekend (well Friday & Sunday - it's a National holiday on Saturday!) and refuses to take it off. He will ensure I am "dumped in Hortobágy" for St. Dömötör Day so I can go and gaze in awe at the csikös, now whether I am re-collected from Hortobágy & taken back home afterwards is open to interpretation at this stage! Maybe time to trade Mr bmb in for one of the csikós!

Last week was Magyar Kupa week and although the big teams joined in, the games are refereed by NBIII & NBII referees.

We're back in the league this week - Round 7. We're already almost a quarter of the way through the season already!

ZTE v Paks
2021.09.24 - 20:00
Zalaegerszeg, ZTE Aréna
Referee: Káprály Mihály
4O: Andó-Szabó Sándor
AR: Becséri Gergely, Aradi József
VAR: Pintér Csaba
AVAR: Tóth II. Vencel
Operátor: Zierkelbach Péter

This was a thoroughly enjoyable 7 goal thriller with Paks beating ZTE 5-2.  Is it just me or is a team getting completely stuffed so much more satisfying when they have a very unlikeable coach?  I'm sure Walter Róbert has managed to blame the 5 goals against his team on the referee whist ignoring their disallowed goal being 27 feet offside as being a wrong cal by VAR... He did impressively manage his 2nd card free game though, well 3rd if you count the game he was suspended for! 3 yellows, 1 2nd yellow red and a 1 match ban so far.

MTK Budapest v Mezőkövesd Zsóry
2021.09.25 - 14:45
Budapest, Új Hidegkuti Nándor Stadion
Referee: Farkas Ádám
4O: Karakó Ferenc
AR:Albert István, Vígh-Tarsonyi Gergő

Our brightest and most exciting young coach v our dinosaur... Hajrá MTK!

Gyirmót FC Győr v Budapest Honvéd
2021.09.25 - 17:00
Győr, Alcufer Stadion
Referee: Erdős József
4O: Pintér Csaba
AR: Garai Péter, Kóbor Péter

Welcome back József! His first on pitch match this season - he's been VAR in 8 games so far. He was looking very slender, happy, relaxed and confident at the VAR training camp just before the season started so hope that will reflect on the pitch this afternoon. 2 toothless teams so a good match to come back with. Mr Pintér may need to take a bottle of headache tablets with him as our manager will no doubt whinge, whine, throw tantrums and generally embarrass himself & the club again   I admit I was hoping we would have a new manager by now... Horváth is a scruffy shambles! He looks like Worzel Gummige with about the same level of tactical nous - my apologies to Worzel Gummige for the comparison!

Mol Fehérvár v Puskás Akadémia
2021.09.25 - 19:30
Székesfehérvár, Mol Aréna Sóstó
Referee: Solymosi Péter
4O: Berke Balázs
AR: Buzás Balázs, Medovarszki János

Saturday evening #SolymosiWatch for bmb! The lovely Mr Solymosi being given the not a derby derby again. Always a feisty affair between these 2, so a wise old head is a great choice.  That and it's #SolymosiWatch which is always a great reason, imo.

MTK Budapest v Mezőkövesd Zsóry

Our brightest and most exciting young coach 1-0 the dinosaur... Hajrá MTK!

Gyirmót FC Győr v Budapest Honvéd
Good news we won 4-2, bad news is the manager is staying another week!!  To be fair to both teams, their behaviour was excellent. The manager even had cleaned himself up for the game, washed brushed hair and smartish clothes - maybe he reads RTR!  Probably the easiest game József will have.  He really has lost a lot of weight & was looking really good out there today.

Mol Fehérvár v Puskás Akadémia
Black shirted #SolymosiWatch - what more needs saying!  He got his 1st VAR intervention today, resulting in a red card.  Was completely on his blind side, a stamp, 3 players blocking his view. Alerted by VAR & did an onfield review.  I like how they show exactly what the ref is watching on screen.

BMB must have been a good girl week as there is a further #SolymosiWatch (as 4O) on the derby tomorrow.
