Obviously no certainty now with the current climate but VAR had been scheduled to begin trials in the NBI in November.

First off: http://focibiro.hu/cikk.php?id=10329

Video Judge Assistant: IFAB and FIFA have highlighted the challenges at Telki, without true referees and professionals.

The MLSZ presidency decided in 2019 to introduce the VAR system. The experts of the international organizations informed about the progress of the project in Hungary and drew the attention of the members of the working group to the importance of the measures, theoretical and practical training necessary for the implementation.

Specialists from the International Football Association Board (IFAB) and the International Football Association (FIFA), the highest-level rulemaking body in high-level football, have provided detailed information on the use of the video referee assistant and the associated signaling system (VOLT). practical difficulties and tasks of introduction. There is a common belief that the smooth implementation of the system requires a high level of cooperation between several professional fields.

In addition to game management, technology, television broadcasting, communication and infrastructure challenges are expected in the coming period, and the role of professional clubs is also key. Following administrative preparation, the first theoretical training is expected in May, followed by practical testing in the summer.

FIFA Fact Sheet (in English):
https://football-technology.fifa.com/en/innovations/video-assistant-referees/

In this case, we contacted the MLSZ to form the VAR working group.

http://focibiro.hu/cikk.php?id=10340 VAR coming in November instead of summer?

NB I will have a video referee system coming in at the earliest in November, before our referees need to be trained. Márton Vági, Secretary General of the MLSZ, provided information on the preparations for the VAR, which also involves considerable efforts from club, broadcast television, technical partner and referee faculty members.

The MLSZ decided in 2019 to introduce VAR (Video Assistant Referee) in the OTP Bank League, which will also include VOL (Virtual Offside Line), which is the technology behind visualization. However, goal line technology will not be used in our country due to its high cost.

Of the six operators' quotes, MLSZ has accepted Evertz Microsystems, which means the Canadian company provides the video judge system and the necessary technical background. Evertz is present in, among other things, the Belgian Championships and major American sports. Given the huge amount of theoretical and practical training and sophisticated infrastructure development and technical investment needed before the introduction of VAR, a video judge in NB I matches will be available in November of this year at the earliest and at the start of the 2021/22 championship at the latest. This is also a major challenge for the rights-holder television channel, which will have to broadcast 12 leading cameras with leading-edge meetings in Hungary.

VAR HAS THREE FORMS OF OPERATION IN EUROPE AND WORLDWIDE. Centralized, WHICH MEANS THAT ONE CENTRAL premises monitors all match, a decentralized, ie all stadiums KIÉPÍTENEK A SEPARATE ROOM FOR THIS PURPOSE, OR - BY WITH US IS USED WILL - mobile devices BUILT techniques used, THIS PRACTICE ONE EQUIPPED WITH BUSES REPORTING THAT STAYS TO THE STADIANS. MLSZ DECIDED ON COST-EFFECTIVENESS.

It is planned that four buses will be able to broadcast the six NB I matches per turn, but this will require a change in current practice, meaning that there should be no five matches at a time and the start time of the matches should be "delayed".

The MLS decided to implement the VAR system in agreement with cutting-edge clubs. THIS IS ALSO IMPORTANT BECAUSE THE COSTS OF OPERATING THE SYSTEM ARE FINANCED BY THE ASSOCIATIONS, WHICH CAN INCREASE UP TO 20 MILLION FORINTS PER TEAM. (About Ł53,000 - average wage in Hungary is about Ł7,000/7,500 for comparison purposes)

The next important task will be the training of the referees. The MLSZ plans to train more than 40 professionals. With the introduction of a video referee system, there will be no need for baseline referees, but the VAR buses will have a video referee, a video assistant and an operator who can handle the technique perfectly. Referee training will begin in the spring with a theoretical section, after which referees will be able to practice on simulators, first off-line in technically-equipped buses, and live-tested in match-up and amateur matches. The introduction of VAR is also important because UEFA will only trust prestigious international matches to those who regularly meet the video referee system in their championship.

I'll put this here in my NBI thread as I doubt there is much interest outside of myself & Tünde, although JCFC might enjoy it.

In our Magyar Foci family we have a guy Gergely Marosi. He is our walking encyclopaedia on Hungarian football, National team right down to county level. I am in awe of him! If I had even a millionth of his knowledge I'd be well educated! Today we were chatting about how and why we all became NBI fans (particularly those of us who are not Hungarian by birth or descent). One of our lads, who is from Brazil asked: "Do you know any MTK fans? I would like to understand why the club has many titles and at the same time, it has a very low number of fans."

Gergely treated us to a little history on MTK Budapest. Magyar Testgyakorlók Köre Budapest Futball Club (Hungarian Practitioners Circle Budapest Football Club) based in Józsefváros (District VIII in Budapest).

MTK - as its name shows - is the traditional club of the assimilated Jewish population, identifying themselves as Hungarians. There was a Zionist club called VAC (which is not Vác). In 1922 there was a huge fight at the MTK-VAC game, dubbed "the battle of Yom Kippur". The two teams and the crowd had a free-for-all mass brawl. The last 30 mins were finished days later, behind closed doors. Epic stuff. Fans were watching from the elevated tram tracks next to the MTK stadium. MTK, under legendary president Alfréd Brüll, was a very popular club. Not as popular as Ferencváros, but they played top quality football and drew big crowds between WWI and WWII. They were big, attractive and successful. Then WWII came, obviously decimating the fanbase. MTK was forced to stop activity in 1942, re-organised after WW II. ÁVH (the state security) took over the club and changed its colours from blue & white to red & white! So MTK became Bástya. Then it was aligned to the textile industry, becoming Textiles and then Bp. Vörös Lobogó. In 1956 the club could finally revert to MTK and blue & white. From the 1960s to 1987 the club was not successful at all (even got relegated once), so probably less and less people chose them as a team because of the lack of success.  So it's a combination of a decimated fanbase in WWII and about 25 unsuccessful years, while Újpest, FTC, Honvéd, Vasas were all successful. Hard to bounce back. Pity, because MTK is still one of the teams that has a distinctive club style since Jimmy Hogan. MTK traditionally plays short-passing, rather intelligent and attractive, technical football. When they had coaches preferring "Route one" approach, the fans did not like that all, as they thought it's not aligning to club values!

A bit about MTK.

They are one of the most successful Hungarian football clubs, MTK has won the Hungarian League 23 times and the Hungarian Cup 12 times. The club has also won the Hungarian Super Cup 2 times. In 1955, as Vörös Lobogó SE, they became the first Hungarian team to play in the European Cup and in 1964 they finished as runners-up in the European Cup Winners' Cup after losing to Sporting Clube de Portugal in the final. The club founded the Sándor Károly Football Academy in 2001. The Academy also has a partnership agreement with English club Liverpool F.C.  MTK Budapest first entered the Nemzeti Bajnokság in the 1903 season. In the subsequent season, MTK won their first domestic title. Between 1913 and 1914 and 1924–25 MTK dominated Hungarian football by winning ten titles in a row.  They play at the Hidegkuti Nándor Stadion which looks like a prison yard! There is only seating down each side, none behind either goal. Named after Hidegkuti Nándor one of the great players in the 50's who was in the Mighty Magyars team along with Puskás Ferenc.

The fixture between MTK Budapest FC and Ferencvárosi TC is called the Örökrangadó or Eternal derby. The first fixture was played in the 1903 Nemzeti Bajnokság I season. It is the oldest football rivalry in Hungary. The rivalry between Ferencvárosi TC and MTK Budapest is also one of the most tense fixtures in the Hungarian League. Because the two clubs came from neighbouring districts of Budapest, the tension is even higher. The tension between the two clubs is based on racism. MTK Budapest FC is considered a Jewish club since many Jewish figures appeared in the club between the 1930s and the 1940s while Ferencvárosi TC is associated with far-right politics. Between 1903 and 1929 the two clubs won 24 Hungarian League titles (13 MTK and 11 Ferencváros) out of 24, therefore their match was considered as the final of the championship. Traditionally the Ferencváros - MTK rivalry was the most prestigious fixture but this has since been replaced by Ferencváros - Újpest. The rivalry started in the 1930s when Újpest won their first Hungarian League title. The ground is packed to the rafters, travel is a nightmare as supporters of each club are designated very specific metro & bus routes to keep them apart. Rendőrség (police) everywhere - for those old enough to remember hooliganism in the 1980's this is a flashback to that!! It is brutal. There are pyro contests within the ground with amazing co-ordinated displays!

Vörös Lobogó translates to red flag which was an indication of the ÁVH (Államvédelmi Hatóság)/ÁVO (Államvédelmi Osztálya) alignment with the USSR during the long occupation of Hungary. The ÁVH were rebranded as the ÁVO around 1949/50, they were the hated & feared State Secret police (Hungary's version of the KGB). They were loyal to Moscow not the Hungarian people. It is widely reported that the first shots fired during the Hungarian revolution of 1956 were fired by them, it turned a peaceful demonstration into a bloodbath that saw many lives lost. They were disbanded immediately after the revolution & their old headquarters is now a museum called A Terror Háza Múzeum - the House of Terror.

Thoroughly enjoyable hour or so watching Hungary beat Norway 1-0 away from home & a superb team ref performance from Clatts! Simon Beck & Jake Collin were AR's & Craig Pawson & Jon Moss were AAR's. Reminded me though I still haven't quite forgiven Clatts for booking Gera, correct decision or not!! ;)

Cup games from last night:

Mol Fehérvár v Mezőkövesd Zsóry
2020.05.26 - 18:00
Székesfehérvár, Mol Aréna Sóstó
Referee: Vad II. István - Yellow shirt
4O: Bornemissza Norbert
AR: Tóth II. Vencel, Szert Balázs
AAR: Karakó Ferenc, Bogár Gergő

A little note for Mr Puhl, it doesn't matter how often you put Tóth II. with Vad II. (last however many games it is now...), it is not going to turn him into a decent referee by doing so. His decision making remains random and inconsistent and after all these years of not improving he probably never will. Please accept he has never and will never be our top referee, he barely makes the top 10. Tóth would be far better utilised with being put regularly with one of our promising youngsters, Berke, Bogár, Csonka or Pillók. It would be good for them to have our top AR with them.

Budapest Honvéd v MTK Budapest
2020.05.26 - 21:00
Budapest, Puskás Aréna
Referee: Solymosi Péter - Blue shirt
4O: Becséri Gergely
AR: Kóbor Péter, Garai Péter
AAR: Farkas Ádám, Andó-Szabó Sándor

The big Derby game tonight.

OTP Bank League NB I. Round 20
Újpest v Ferencváros
2020.05.27 - 20:00
Budapest, Szusza Ferenc Stadium
Referee: Balázs Berke
4O: Balázs Buzás
AR: István Albert, Balázs Szalai
AAR: Zoltán Iványi, József Erdős

Decent strong 3rd team for this game.

I will say now, I have a bad feeling that this will be a very 1 sided match & Fradi will easily turn their 1 game in hand into 3 points! :(

I will say now, I have a bad feeling that this will be a very 1 sided match & Fradi will easily turn their 1 game in hand into 3 points! :(

Went far better than I thought - we lost 1-0, great goal from Boli but we did put in a decent performance! Could have scored 3, twice the scoring boots went awol and the 3rd decent effort was a good block by Dibz, Fradi's goalie before being cleared off the line. Fradi could have also scored a couple more but Pajovic actually did some goalkeeping today which was a miracle in itself! He made one awesome save - still in shock!

As for the black clad Mr Berke. Not the hardest of games for him, both sets of players behaved themselves. Minimal play acting (it was the Budapest derby so there would always be some) and dissent was missing, that was nice! 2 key match incidents, one he got wrong and 1 right.  The wrong one, Onovo trod on Zubkov and it should have been a penalty to Fradi. Not only did he not give them the penalty but he added insult to injury by booking Zubkov for diving - I suspect he will be very disappointed with that one when he watches it back. Didn't affect the overall result in the end as Lilák couldn't score if they were the only team on the pitch right now but it was a bad call.  I suspect he was unsighted and couldn't see Onovo standing on Zubkov, from the top half of them there was nothing in the challenge, it's only when you see their feet that you can see it & I don't think he could see their feet to be fair to him.  The other one was the YYR for Burekovic. My only comment is Burekovic is a blimmin idiot. 1-0 down, in time added on, on the attack & all he has to do is put the ball in the box so what does he do? He tries instead to launch Lovrencsics into row z, earns himself a 2nd yellow, quite rightly, gives away a stupid, stupid, stupid free kick, hands possession back to opposition right on the edge of their penalty area in the dying seconds and did I mention yet is a blimmin idiot!!! A 7.9 for Mr Berke, that would have been an 8.3 without the wrong penalty call.

Whilst I am happy to have #SolymosiWatch, I am disappointed he doesn't have a middle. I was hoping he would get a game this week and then the emotion derby next weekend which would have meant his 300th game would have been that one. It had better his 299th NBI game instead then, red shirt, red whistle! You're not in my good books Mr Puhl!

Well I get an extra #SolymosiWatch but as AAR again so game 229 had better be at Lilák next weekend, complete with red whistle and red shirt!

Sunday games:

Budapest Honvéd v DVSC
2020.05.31 - 18:55
Budapest, Új Hidegkuti Nándor Stadion
Referee: Pintér Csaba
4O: Lémon Oszkár
AR: Georgiou Theodoros, Szécsényi István
AAR: Berke Balázs, Vad II. István

Puskás Akadémia v Ferencváros
2020.05.31 - 21:05
Felcsút, Puskás Akadémia Pancho Aréna
Referee: Andó-Szabó Sándor
4O: Bornemissza Norbert
AR: Tóth II. Vencel, Szert Balázs
AAR: Farkas Ádám, Solymosi Péter

My only comment on the games today is that Mr Bognár can get straight to the naughty step and stay there. Yellow to referee my team  >:( He could have worn blue or red... 1st time I have ever seen Mr Erdős in yellow and the poor man looked utterly traumatised by the whole experience. Shame on you Mr Bognár.  :o

As for my team, I think I might need to accept that the NBII is beckoning  :'( Last time we were in the 2nd tier is 1911/12  :-\

Words will definitely be had this week! Mr Pintér wore blue in Kispest's win but my extra #SolymosiWatch came with yellow shirts.

bmb is not a happy lady.

Just to cap off the weekend...

Mr beautiful resigned as manager of Lilák on Saturday evening. It has been accepted this time (it was refused 2 months ago), so he and his team, including me, have now officially left the club. We're taking a break before we decide which new pastures to head to. Lilák will always remain my team and Néni's boys will remain Néni's boys but they are no longer MY team!

Congratulations to Bognár Tamás & hs team for being appointed to the Magyar Kupa final. He has performed so well this season & I really feel this is an appointment on merit.

A fantastic game from start to finish.  Kispest won 2-1. Mezőkövesd scored a cracker of a goal. Team ref put in an absolutely master class performance.
