A couple of really good appointments for John Busby here, especially his Tuesday night one. Here’s hoping his recent injury is fully recovered - possibly a contender for SG2??

Quite surprised to see David Rock with our trip to Portsmouth on Tuesday night live in front of the Sky cameras - not an official I’ve seen before so here’s hoping it is successful for him!

And congratulations to Simon Mather - an EFL debut at Harrogate. It’s been a few seasons IIRC since FL trial games were used so this could be a sign of their return or just under current circumstances with less opportunities in the NL. Either way, good luck to him. Here’s hoping it goes well!

Has anyone seen Robert Madley refereeing recently? Does he stand out as one of the better performers this season?

Would imagine it's a trial game given the appointment of Eddie Wolstenholme and Mike Jones as "coaches"

Watched him do Tranmere v Stevenage a few weeks ago. Looks to have put on a few pounds, started a bit whistle happy then eased off. The main area of contention was in the AR’s domain, 2 occasions balls bouncing off the bar adjudged not to have crossed the line. No mistakes from Mr Madley but in this game he didn’t stand out as anything out of the ordinary.

I saw David Rock at Crewe v Cambridge last season in L2, one of his earliest games on the FL. A slightly older looking chap than some newbies, I was not impressed. The Crewe red card was contentious after 20 mins, but the penalty award which ultimately gave Cambridge a 2-3 win was one of the worst I've ever seen, Ng clearly playing the ball and not touching the opponent. I imagine David has improved since then.

He had a good game at Lincoln last night was an easy game though

Having seen a fair bit of both teams over the last couple of years, they are not two that I'd have picked for an "easy game". Perhaps he made it easy.

I'd seen David Rock many times in his non-league career and he was, for me, an outstanding official if the two teams wanted to play football. If he had a problem it was with "difficult" teams.

Very dubious red card from Bobby Madley at Accrington. Tackle from behind in the box but player initially claiming it wasn't a penalty because he got the ball makes it very difficult to say he wasn't attempting to win it. Red card left Accrington with 10 men for 75 minutes, 1-0 lead becoming a 2-1 defeat.

Never was. A mediocre ref who climbed higher up the ladder than his abilities merited in my humble opinion but I am sure others will disagree

Red card issued by Bobby Madley overturned on appeal.
