No disrespect but really odd to have SG2 Dean Whitestone refereeing a 'dead rubber' game, Colchester v Walsall. Unless..... he is finishing and wants to end with a game where he first started. Ben Toner would be an obvious replacement as SG2. Conjecture but any thoughts?

His first league game was Cheltenham v Rochdale. I know because I was there!
Dean whitestones first football league match was on 22/10/2005 at notts county Carlisle , the game you were at tvos was his 4 th league two match and was played 4 months later on 25th feb 2006 . None of which clears up the original question though .

Good point. I'm getting legged up with Rob Lewis.

Thanks

Rebecca Welch has the Paris-Lyon Semi-Final on the evening of 30/4 & then has to be in Salford as 4O 2 days later. That doesn't seem fair.

Chris Kavanagh is on her team and has Man Utd v Brentford as ref on Monday. Even worse as he is VAR on the Feyenoord game tonight so travels from that straight to Paris tomorrow for this one and then back to England on the 1st for the Man Utd game.

I've said before the 48 hour rule should apply to all members of the team not just for the referee not to referee again. They have the same travel and AR's is a physically demanding role. VAR is a mentally demanding role. It is ridiculous...

Is the VAR hub for the women’s champions league not in Switzerland like it is in the mens? Surely that would mean less travel for Chris Kavanagh. Seems excessive especially how Man United vs Brentford is a game which could have gone to a newbie

No. Whilst the VAR hub was used at Nyon during the Euros and during lockdowns it is not used for all games.  If a ground has a dedicated VAR room within the ground or a VAR van that can be used at the ground then that is used ahead of the hub in Nyon. Whilst the rest of the team fly back to the UK in the morning he will be on a flight to Paris.

At least they haven't made him travel back to the UK with the rest of the team and then straight onto Paris to join Rebecca Walsh and the rest of that team, which would really not have surprised me!!

Not saying that it’s fair but she has had a number of fourth official appointments this season which have been within 48 hours of a match abroad.  Earlier this month Rebecca Welch took charge of Spain v Brazil on a Thursday evening, a fourth official appointment at Rotherham on the Saturday and then was referee for Switzerland v Italy on the Tuesday.  The same applied to Lisa Rashid although she was called upon after only ten minutes on the Saturday to replace the injured assistant at Shrewsbury.

No surprise to see changes to the fourth official appointments once they had decided the TV matches for tomorrow lunchtime.

Why "obvious" ?
