AR Paul Stonier retired after appearing to be hit by a missile at Gresty Road, Crewe v Rotherham, this afternoon. He carried on for about 10-15 mins after being hit on the head but then swopped with 4O Conor Brown for the remainder of the match. The missile appeared to come from the Rotherham contingent and their skipper went across to the fans to talk to them before the game resumed. I imagine Rotherham will be hearing from the FA in the next few days, and this is something which clearly cannot be allowed to go unpunished. The security at Crewe must also come into question.
For the record, Rotherham won 2-0 in a game which they dominated throughout and Crewe ended with 10 men following a 2nd yellow for a clumsy challenge. Referee Benjamin Speedie did OK in a game which was sometimes niggly, but was certainly not the best ref I've seen in recent times at Gresty Road.
