Just seen the Crewe penalty and it looked like a pretty poor decision.

In worse news, James Adcock was only able to last for 20 minutes before being replaced by Ben Toner at Scunthorpe this afternoon. Desperately sad for him yet again

One must applaud Adcock for trying so hard to make a come back after his injury but as many good referees have found ( I am thinking particularly of Michael Naylor ) there comes a point where you just have to listen to what your body is telling you and make the hardest of decisions. Let us hope that this is just a temporary blip for Adcock ( and this latest incident may of course be quite unrelated to his previous injury ) but it doesn't look good.

i have seen Adcock referee live once after he came back from injury. He ran a pretty central channel, didn't go out wide much and appeared to he holding his sprints back considerably. It was a straightforward match to referee and he did absolutely fine but there will be very demanding matches where the referee really does have to be consistently in absolutely the right position to maintain control.

Michael Naylor was an outstanding referee and it was a great loss to football when injury forced his early retirement. I have absolutely no doubt that if he had stayed fit he would now be on PL, the verge of FIFA (if not already on) and being talked about for upcoming Wembley Finals.

I agree. I saw Michael Naylor at Gresty Road when he refereed a L2 playoff semi-final, Crewe v Southend, and he was good. Russell Booth - like James Adcock from Notts - was another promising ref whose career was cut short by injury. I would be sorry to see James Adcock go, but I think it is inevitable now after this latest setback. I hope he can manage one more full game - a 'nothing' game in L2 perhaps - before deciding that enough is enough and leaving top flight refereeing before he's pushed.
