One person who I am surprised not to see high up in the Merit List and therefore receiving a Play Off appointment is Neil Hair.  I have seen him live twice and he was superb on both occasions. Perhaps I serve as some sort of lucky mascot for him and at other matches he has been distinctly average but of the League 1 and 2 referees I have seen , his performances have unquestionably been among the very best.

Agreed he is excellent, but currently injured.

Ah that explains things. I hope he swiftly recovers from his injury. I may not be the best talent spotter in the business ( or rather I mean my estimations don't always necessarily coincide with the 'powers that be' ) but on the evidence of my eyes I would say Neil Hair is the most promising talent I have seen emerge in Leagues 1 and 2 in the last two or three years.

I think Neil probably looks a lot younger than he is.  At a guess I would say he is late 30s or early 40s, so it is probably going to be difficult for him to progress much further.  Very good referee though, someone who I worked with when he was L3 and L2B.

Your guess is spot on.

I would go for Brammall to take the L2 final. Gillett the L1 final and Taylor the Championship final.

Prior to the appointments I would have said Bramall was a good choice however with his doing a semi final I can’t see him then refereeing a final with the same team. I think it will be either from Hicks or Madley with them doing League 1 (presumably finishing 1st and 2nd), or nobody named such as Edwards or Backhouse

Yes, he was interviewed by sky sports pitchside during the pre match coverage.

Well if history repeats itself Harrington is heading toward SG1 and Madley to SG2 soon.

Congrats to Harrington. I know different bodies appoint but just last week he had the F A Trophy Final and now he is back at Wembley with the Div 1 Final. I for one always like to see things shared out as much as possible so am slightly disappointed.
I won’t react to Madley’s appointment

Madley has clearly finished right up there to have been given the appointment. From his performance at Oxford it was clear why.

It’s such a shame that people who apparently have some strange personal thing against certain referees, probably ones who they have never actually met, don’t have the ability to bring themselves to just say congratulations. It’s very sad to read things like that on this kind of forum.
Perhaps they just don’t like being proved that their opinion may be wrong

Harrington has certainly gone under my radar somewhat which, I should add, is generally a most commendable thing. If SG1 take 2 promotions then he and Gillett are the candidates with Madley and Hicks going up to SG2.

It seems that Robinson has possibly had his chance for promotion and it hasn't gone his way.

Congratulations to all.
The Harrington appointment is a bit of a surprise, thought that final would gone to gillett.
Think there are 3 candidates for promotion to sg1 after this appointment, Gillett, Brooks and Harrington.
Think Harrington is in the category of Attwell, good when nothing much happens, but not so good when things do happen.
Cant say i am surprised by Madley appointment, however thought Brakespear was in with a shout.
Feel sure Madley will be promoted to sg2 and probably back to sg1 quite quickly, the latter as i think he is much better than most on sg2 at present.
Brakespear must be in with a shout of promotion too, along with Hicks.

Best wishes to all appointed for the weekend.
