any idea when we will get these appointments and who the contenders are ???

The SG1 and SG2 appointments have been appearing here on Tuesdays since the return.

Andy Woolmer must be a strong contender based on the weekend and the previous couple of seasons.

Sorry, can’t work out if this is a joke or deadly serious comment. Given Woolmers handling of the 22 man brawl at the weekend I hope it’s the former

Probably on the same basis that Roger East was a Championship play off semi final regular.  Mr Woolmer should be nowhere near those matches.

Andy Woolmer handled Portsmouth's play off 1st leg at Sunderland last year and was poor on the night. There was discussion on this forum at that stage that said he was a terrible choice for the game and had probably only got it through longevity and so it proved to be. As a Pompey fan I'm hoping for someone much better this year.

Well done to all who have been appointed. Hopefully they will have a good game, it's worth a lot money to the winners.  ;) ;D

Michael Salisbury last night appeared to miss or ignore quite a few things however he got the red card correct.  A cowardly assault on a player who wasn't expecting anything, therefore unable to 'ride the tackle'.  Fortunate that the player wasn't more seriously injured.  We won 4-0, if anyone didn't see us?  ;D
Looking forward once again to trudging around the League One grounds of the country.  8)

I agree- there was a challenge leading up to the red card (correct) which should have resulted in a free kick and a yellow card. I think the red card was a product of frustration and I wonder how many referees these days can pick this kind of thing building up and take action to cool things down. Not enough, I fear.

This is a very good point. I haven't seen this incident so can't comment on it but a lot of red cards result from players who have been "niggled" and sometimes seriously fouled or provoked (sometimes verbally), either off the ball or on the ball without the officials noticing. The actual red card may be quite justified but actually avoidable if the provocation had been noticed. I agree that too often the unsettling of the ultimately sanctioned player is missed. The best and most alert referees and assistants are very adept at preventing these sorts of build-ups and this helps prevent a lot of cards. Red and yellow cards also often result from the officials in general missing foul play and therefore players "taking matters into their own hands". In refereeing as in life the most alert custodians avoid having to take disciplinary action because those under their supervision know that any wrong-doing will be spotted and acted on and sometimes even a look or a word at an initial offence - or potential offence - prevents further offending.

The 'incident' referred to was in the same phase of the red card offence and involved a different player, it didn't directly contribute to the ultimate sanction offence.  Therefore the 'niggly' excuse didn't come into play.  It wasn't really in line with how the rest of the game was being played and I didn't detect a build up of frustration, I think that Exeter had given up by then anyway.

Didn’t realise that Harrington uses a circle red card. Twice brandished at Fleetwood tonight...

Good appointment again for Rob Jones  it would appear that he will be promoted at the end of the season, is a far better referee than some that operate on the premier league at the present time. Has the ability  to go along way and is a real nice guy.

A solid decision by the EFL to give Jones this game who I have to say wasn’t at his best at Blackburn last Saturday but nevertheless a well deserved appointment for Jones he gets this final for the second time in three years. And this surely guarantees that he will be refereeing at the top next year

I didn’t think he was at his best either this evening at Forest. Some very odd decisions and missed handballs to boot.

Andy Madley got this game last season and was promoted as was Peter Bankes who was 4O and Nick Hopton who was AR. The other AR was Timothy Wood who's on the game again.

Must bode well for them in the promotion stakes (though probably not this years 4O)!
