Interesting that three first year EFL referees have been appointed there.

Good to see that there are different kick off times to allow people to watch all four if required.

Good to see reserve assistants being used as well as a precaution.

The card shark from Surrey has an early chance to flash his red card in the play offs 😂😂😂

Huge congratulations to all appointee, especially the 3 first year referees who are clearly being rewarded for having an excellent season. Marc Edwards’ appointments (including an FA Cup 4th round tie!) show he’s started his EFL career superbly and I have heard good things about Leigh Doughty, suggesting he is a future candidate for SG2! Not heard so much about Josh Smith!

Given Matthew Jones' involvement in PL game, albeit as RAR, could he be in line for one of the lines on the final?
Referee for the final - Kevin Johnson?

Good to see some appointments to discuss again!

I'm surprised none of the three referees who had trial games just before Christms are involved - maybe one of those for the final?

My guess for the final would be one of the 3 trialists (most likely Salisbury Jnr) or John Busby.

Or maybe they'll be involved in League One?

Possibly. SG2 referees normally handle those but obviously the Championship has often finished by that point whereas this season it will still be very much ongoing so who knows.

I think that it would make sense not to use the SG2 officials.  The League One play offs are on the Friday 3rd and Monday 6th July and at that stage there will be midweek and weekend fixtures in the Championship.  The SG2 officials will be stretched covering the Championship, PL (board duties, VAR or the rumoured middles).

Josh came in for a lot of stick on this site with one of his first appointments at (I think) PLymouth, and it is good that he has obviously put this behind him and had a good season, leading to this playoff appointment. I wish all the officials well.

Personally I think that L1 play-offs are more important than PL FOs. There's only the 12 Championship matches in any one round so there should be plenty of SG2 officials to cover both. I certainly think it's happened before that the L1 play-off semi finals have taken place when the PL/Championship have still been ongoing but that hasn't meant non-SG2 referees being appointed.

I would have expected to see James Oldham in the mix somewhere...and perhaps we still shall.

Alan Clayton has got injured after 10 minutes at Northampton - Hristo Karaivanov coming on in his place.  The flag and comms kit have been disinfected on the handover.
