Donohue replaced by the card shark Breakspear.

Injury ?  Illness  ?  Anyone know why ?  Thanks.

Yes, a pity for Matthew that he appears to have missed out on a key game for whatever reason. Mansfield manager David Flitcroft was clearly unhappy with some of the decisions in the game. "There are probably 60 to 70 higher ranking referees in this country who should have refereed this game tonight" (Times). OK, perhaps the appointment was forced on the League at short notice, but presumably if referees are appointed on merit (which I think we can assume in Matthew's case), then the 4O should not be too far behind and Charles has always struck me as a steady, reliable referee.

I was at Charlton vs Accrington so I can back up any comment made on John Busby. Absolutely abysmal lack of authority shown and had no idea of who was actually as guilty of wrongdoing as he lost control of the game that was in front of him.
As for Gavin Ward, he was terrible when he came on after starting as the 4th for the TV game at Millwall (I was there- not just going off what was seen on TV). Had an inept showing just a month a go at The Valley after deciding that a clear red was a yellow, missing a clear pen and then giving a pen for something was extremely weak. In any game however bad it is going, if you realise you make a mistake refereeing is never about evening it up/making up for your errors. Would be at the bottom half of league 1 refs. Maybe have been a bit harsh but I am sure everyone can agree that he isn't good enough to be refereeing regularly in the Championship. I feel it would of been a great appointment for Jarred Gillett.
Off topic but David Webb is one of the best refs I have seen this season!

Jarred Gillet has refereed three games in the EFL, all of them dead rubbers. Give him time to acclimatise to the English game first.

I am pleased to say that Matt Donohue missed out on his play-off match for the happiest of reasons.

Ex-Shrimper Matt has become a proud father.

Well in one way ( as he has had SG2 games) comes as no surprise but given recent incidents seems even more bizarre that he didnt do a game or two. No disrespect to the FAVase teams but the intensity will be much higher.
Good luck. May as well stay down in London for a week 😀

For what?!

Surely not a play-off final?

Even Manchester United make better appointments than the people choosing play-off referees this year!

Surprised and not impressed, if Mr Joyce is deemed the best official worthy from those outside the SGs to take charge. His lack of player empathy has the ability to ruin what should be a great occasion for both clubs.

Puzzled about Mr Ilderton as FO, given he did the Forest Green v Tranmere Rovers second leg semi.

I am flabbergasted. Here we have a ref who has not refereed a game since he made a pig's ear of Walsall v Southend on Good Friday, 19th April, but now taking charge of the FA Vase final followed by a Playoff Final. Do we know why he has not appeared for 4 weeks? Injury, suspension? And is he actually going to take charge of Sunday's Vase Final? An outrageous appointment in my view and an insult to the many, many FL refs who ply their trade week in week out without bother. Sorry but that's the way I see it!

And I and I am sure many others wholeheartedly agree. He certainly is the favoured son for reasons which completely baffle me. After his disasterous performance at Walsall he was lucky to keep the FA Vase Final but then to get this Final too is just taking the p***.
But doesn’t he work in some capacity for the FA? Not that I am insinuating anything of course...........😛

Some of this season's play-off appointments have been very bizarre, to say the least.

Still, Hackett's pleased for him...

Talking of Hackett... his yearly review on the SG must be imminent.

Sigh.
