Ross Joyce was mentioned in terms of promotion to SG2 and got a couple of Finals at Wembley but it doesn't seem to have done him much good since.

Clearly Samuel Barrott is impressing the right people but I haven't seen him so cannot offer any personal insight. I think Will Finnie is a bit of a slow burner. I would be very surprised if he doesn't end up as SG1 one day.

Not to forget that Ross Joyce received a couple of Championship appointments during that season which ended for him with that play off final.  Dean Whitestone and Matt Donohue were the promotions in 2019 and they were not appointed to any Championship matches that season.

It will be interesting to see if Barrott and Speedie follow Donohue, Smith and Doughty in gaining a promotion to SG2 after one EFL season.

What was strange was that Ross Joyce refereed the playoff final after being 'rested' for a month or so for some reason. He is one I think, like Stuart Attwell and Robert Madley  who might be benefiting from not being under so much pressure to perform.

His month off came after a staggeringly awful performance in the Walsall v Southend match on 19th April. One of his more minor transgressions was appearing to show the Southend captain at least 2 yellow cards without the normal red to follow. Things like this seem to upset the powers that be much more than the embarrassing incompetence that preceded it.

Even as a Middlesbrough fan I hope Dean Whitestone has a good game in his fixture.

Hopefully no controversial incidents to ease him back in to his first middle since the Fry Incident

Huge game at the top of league 1, Hull V Lincoln - thought it might have gone SG2 but rather underwhelmingly, is Mr Stockbridge.
Big game for Toner Bolton v Salford

Long trip for speedie to Devon  :-\
What do these L1 and L2 series of appointments tell us about whose star is rising and whose is falling ? A little while ago Ross Joyce and Alan Young seemed to be in favour but they have certainly gone backwards I think. As for those on the up, Marc Edwards perhaps, Will Finnie certainly, and Benjamin Speedie and Samuel Barrott without any doubt.  Thoughts ?

Hope Marc Edwards has a better game tomorrow at Scunthorpe, then he had at Shrewsbury on Tuesday night, after the Crewe player had is leg broken by an horrendous and intentional challenge from his opponent, for which he played on with the player in pain on the ground and cautioned the offending player  when play stopped.

Any referee prepared to stand up to Steve Evans deserves a medal and promotion!
Cannot believe that Mr Evans and his delughtful number 2 dont pick up more cards.
Hats off to Samuel

I feel sorry for Kettle having to put up with that vile individual Evans for 90mins...

John Busby comes off in 87th minute at Portman Road. AR takes whistle & 4O goes to line.

Looked like a hamstring injury so I'll be very surprised if he is at Fratton Park on Tuesday.

James Bell was strongly criticised for his performance in the Donny vs. Oxford game. He did miss a penalty incident because he had two players in his line of vision, and although his AR could havee baled him out he chose not to make such a big call. Bell's positioning was an issue at other times was questionable. Overall I thought a game between the two form teams in League One needed a more experienced referee.
