Robert Madley returning after injury I believe. Anthony Backhouse with what seems to be the standout game in L1, Derby v Ipswich, and Lewis Smith with another L1 game in his first few months on the list. It would not surprise me if both are considered for promotion before long, along with Rebecca Welch, to fill the vacancies created by the almost inevitable promotion of Darren Bond and Tim Robinson. Benjamin Speedie at L Orient and Simon Mather at Northampton seem to have the standout games in L2, along with Adam Herczeg at Stockport on Friday night.

Will be my first time seeing Sunny Singh Gill in the middle. Will be interesting seeing how his refereeing style compares to his Dad.

I've seen him twice this season and he was much better than his dad, although I never really rated him, to be honest.

I have to say I have watched a lot of referees in my time but I did see Mr Singh Gill this season and was rather struck by his lack of movement. Whether it is an attempt to appear in control or not I’m not sure but a lazier looking referee at that level I have not seen.
Hopefully his coach has pointed this out and you see a marked improvement.
It was such an ‘I don’t care’ body language it was quite startling.

I did see his father referee a number of times also but I don’t remember anything negative about him which is always a good sign isn’t it. Perhaps he could offer some tips on looking interested at least

First impressions of Mr Sunny Singh Gill were mixed. He gave a first YC to Harrogate's O'Connor for a push, where he might have managed with just giving a free-kick. The same player then takes out a Rovers player with a reckless challenge from behind, should be a YC but in context could just about understand the final warning. When the same player commits a further foul deserving a caution and again nothing more than a word, then you start to wonder. It didn't stop him issuing YCs for other fouls which were less deserving than the second of O'Connor's. On the plus side, his positioning seemed good and while he wasn't as mobile as some, usually seemed to be in the right place to give the call and on a couple of occasions intervene quickly to prevent things kicking off.

Boyeson busy with handing out cards this afternoon once again…

That’s twenty yellows in two games for him… a busy lad!

Oh dear Antony Backhouse, hope that wasn’t a chance of promotion today at Pride Park, very disappointing performance for such a high stake game. Back to the conference league for you! (And Derby were also very bad, so not a sore loser)

I went to Doncaster v Crewe. Ross Joyce didn't have much to do really, quite a dead game with nothing at stake. Was a bit confused how Donny got away with no yellow cards, but at least Ross was consistent with both teams. Got nothing wrong( well Simon Clayton did giving a throwing the wrong way but nothing major.) Well done Mr Joyce and his team.

From the other side of the fence, I didn't think Mr Backhouse was as bad as many referees we have seen this season.

However, his performance raises an age old moan of mine, why punish two minor time wasting occasions with YCs but allow a rugby tackle & a late tackle, that subsequently sees the injured player taken off, go unpunished??
