Delighted to see Adcock at the stadium of Light - I really hope he has an excellent game in front of the sky cameras and is able to last the 90!!!

Also, a huge game for Marc Edwards at the top of League 1. I can imagine him feeling pretty chuffed when his appointments pinged through!

I have never seen a referee " pose" as much as Adcock did last night in front of the cameras.

James seems to have a very strange, very upright way of running and, from the brief highlights on Quest, it seemed very accentuated at the SOL. I wondered whether he was feeling his way back into things after yet another spell out of action.

I watched the game live on Sky.  I would like to say I watched Mr Adcock but he didn't manage to get in the picture very often.  He ploughed a very short, narrow furrow up the centre of the pitch.  It rather looked like he was unable to manage (or unwilling to risk) any dynamic movement.  I have seldom seen a game at this level refereed from so far away.  I hope this is the start of a comeback by someone who showed so much promise but I fear his injury problems may have compromised him too much.

Agreed. I note that James does not feature at any level this weekend. I think he is either being brought back into action very slowly or he has decided, after Friday, that any further comeback would be futile. I hope that Sunderland was not his final game but I do think we shall not be seeing much more of him, which is a pity. He was not promoted to SG2 for nothing.

I agree at, had he not had a lot of injuries he would have been in the premier league by now!

Your reply was inside the quote itself. Easily done on here for some reason, I think possibly because the reply box is small & it can be easy to miss you're not replying after the last [ / quote ]  code. I do it often but it's easy for me to edit my own posts quickly!

Anyone else see Tom Nield last night at Grimsby?

Possibly the poorest display I have seen this year!  His assistants saw and gave more than he did. Afraid he is out of his depth at this level.

3 mins in, a late reckless out of control challenge resulting in a broken rib, punctured lung and shoulder ligament damage and no booking, not even spoke to the player concerned.

No game next week, so time for him to think thing over.

Obviously I can’t say anything without seeing the incident, but everything will depend on his position on the field of play as to his judgement. The one time I have seen Nield I thought he was excellent.

Just to add apparently: the player has suffered a broken rib, ligament damage across the shoulder and collarbone as well as a punctured lung and is currently still in hospital awaiting results of further tests and will probably be out for the rest of the season.

Good to see that James was a late replacement at Rotherham on Saturday.

I'm not sure it will go down as James Adcock's finest hour...

I must be missing something.  It looks like a corner to me.  If yellow is attacking, the goalkeeper has carried the ball over the line: corner.  If yellow is defending, ditto, unless it's deemed a deliberate pass to the goalkeeper, which it clearly isn't.

Reading the comments it was from his own player. Not sure I'd see that as a deliberate back pass, looks like he was just trying to put the ball out.

What's he done wrong then ?  Looks like a perfectly good decision to me.

Started to read some of the moronic responses on twitter but quickly gave up on that !

To me the player has passed (albeit badly) to his goalkeeper. If, as others have alluded to, he is clearing the ball it would have gone for a throw or much closer to corner flag. Should have been a free kick
