Any news from Nemesis regarding the performance of Mr R Madley at Ipswich today?
I was hoping for a buried hatchet and maybe a positive word but I think a 2-5 score line and a penalty to the away team may have put paid to that pipedream

We wait with baited breath………..

Head and shoulders above the other four referees to visit Portman Road thus far this season.

Unfortunately for Ipswich, Bolton were also head and shoulders better than the previous opposition. After 45 minutes it was 2-2, chances galore and the game could have been going any way. In the generous 3 minutes of stoppage time Ipswich missed a sitter, Bolton countered with a goal, leaving Ipswich chasing the game. Twelve minutes later it  was 2-5 and again there could have been more goals at both ends. Questions raised in my mind about the tactical competence of the Ipswich management team.

A neutral or a visiting supporter would have loved this game and Madley played his part to the full, looking to use advantage where possible and actually showing an interest in where players took throws and how long they took to restart play. Cautions were consistent and non-contentious and the randomness of awarding fouls which had been evident in most other games wasn't there. It'll never catch on.
