24 refs are officiating at their current level, for example SG1 for a tie involving at least one PL club. 7 are 'punching above their weight' - Barrott, Brooks, Speedie, Stroud, Coy, Drysdale and Harrington, and just one - Kevin Friend - could be said to be refereeing at a lower level, although Chorley v Derby (on BT) is undoubtedly a key tie. A good mix of SG1, SG2 and FL refs, and it tends to be the 4th round before most if not all ties are refereed by SG1 refs.

Interesting too to see a number of SG2 refs without a middle and, in sone cases, without even a 4th O role.
Seem to be Eltringham, Linington, Simpson, Davies, Martin, Ward , Doughty and Smith, though I gather the latter is currently injured.
Somehow Langford gets a game, as does the aged Woolmer who is in great danger of becoming the new “grandad” !

Very good appointment for Drysdale with an all-championship tie. Good appointments for Coy and Barrott with Championship vs L1 ties. Big opportunity for Speedie on Millwall Boreham Wood.

Wonder when Oliver was last at Marine  ???
I remember being at Marine in a Lancashire League game in mid January many years ago. It was rather cold so we switched on the small 2 bar electric heater.  Moments later a knock on the door - "Could you turn the heater off please ref. We need power for the tea bar!".  I'm sure the facilities have improved since then,

Reminds me of local league gane,
I abandoned it after 30 mins due to a blizzard and heavy snow fall. Got back to "hut" to find electricity had gone off, so had to take out the window shutters to get enough light to change (or at least gather your belongings).
Then we had to dig 3 cars out of the car park before the rest could leave.

As a Pompey fan I will be very interested to get my first look at Jarred Gillett when he does our tie at Bristol City.  Been waiting for him to get one of our games ever since he came to our shores.

Some of the games pre-VAR would have gone to SG2 referees but I assume that because they are at premier league teams and VAR is in operation then they need the full training hence why SG1 have to referee the games.

With his experience of VAR, I am sure Jarred Gillett could have one of those games at least.

I am fully aware this probably isn't the time or the place to re-bring this up. But can I just mention the same side note that has been mentioned many times before about the absolute absurdity of having matches in the same round of the same competition and having some using VAR and some not.

Whether it is liked or not it is surely wrong that if the same 'incident' is missed at both Boreham Wood and Manchester United, it will be corrected at one and not the other.

No team is scheduled to get an advantage (it may favor home or away, having or not having VAR - depending on the circumstance) but to me it's just not fair and very off putting. To me either you don't use it until everyone has it, or as every game is being televised surely you can have even a rudimentary version of it to at least monitor any 'clear and obvious' errors that can be seen with one camera.

Can you provide a source please? The Donny players returned to training today (Tuesday) and will be tested today and Thursday. At the moment we're expecting to be playing on Saturday.
