Mason seemed to do fine.

The BBC commentator mentioned he was the longest serving SG1 referee not to have done the FA Cup final, so perhaps he's a contender.

Did I Hear the words “excellent” and “Lee Mason” in the same sentence at one stage? Blimey. Easy game to ref as so one-sided that he never broke sweat.

The part I saw looked fairly straightforward but I must say the penalty was an excellent spot! Was taken completely by surprise when he pointed to the spot, but the replay showed it to be a superb call!!!

Whilst I agree with the penalty decision there were a lot of similar pushes that went unpunished. Thought he lacked consistency throughout!

I would hope that they will scrap the "you can only do the cup final once" principle for this year and give it to someone that has already had it.  Don't know about others, but I'd be pretty gutted if my one and only opportunity of refereeing it came with it being played behind closed doors.

Still a cup final though, just unfortunately without the build up and atmosphere that make it special. but I'm sure whoever gets it will take it and be happy with it still.

Perhaps one reason why Lee Mason's performances have improved (imo) in the last couple of seasons is that he looks more relaxed.  It was noticeable today and there seemed to be rather more inter-action with players, although his attempts to quell Andy Carroll's complaints went unheeded. A few years ago he often appeared hot and bothered and not just on a hot day.

Agree it was a good spot for the penalty.

I doubt Mason will get the FA Cup final this season for 2 reasons - he has already done the League Cup final this season, and a quick check of Soccerbase tells me it has been nearly 7 years since he refereed any sort of match between 2 of the big 6 teams - and we know that the final is guaranteed to be between 2 of the big 6 this year.

I am hoping it might go to someone who has done it before on the basis that there will be no crowd, so it will be a very muted occasion compared to normal.

I wonder if Graham Scott is a good outside bet....  has had a steady season and an official who seems to stay out of the limelight.

Possibly - especially if the final is United v Arsenal.

If any other finals then I see it being Pawson or Tierney.
If they do decide to go down the route of picking someone who has had it before then Atkinson would be my favourite

It’s very unlikely we’ll see Banks or Madley involved apart from in a var role perhaps. Those games will go to two of the big guns I’d Imagine. As for the final Hooper is a definite No I’d imagine, he doesn’t even get many prem appointments i doubt they’ll suddenly give him a cup final at this stage. Scott is in the running though I’d Imagine.

My personal Bet for the final is craig pawson, he’d be the best bet for me.

I've made that point a couple of times - I think either it will go to someone who's already had it or someone who might not normally have been considered (which could bring Mason or Scott into the equation.)

If it's someone who's already had it, Dean or Oliver would be my choice. I think they've been the best two referees this season. I think Oliver is our number 1 referee (although not sure the powers that be think that!) and I think Dean's been the best referee over the past 20 years or so in terms of consistency and I always feel sorry for him about what happened in 2006.

Atkinson possibly, or Mike Dean perhaps as he was taken off the Final involving Liverpool.  Being the only Ref to do 2 FA Cup Finals for goodness knows how long might be some recognition as he gets nearer retirement, which I'm sure he would appreciate.

Kavanagh doesn't seem to have pictured much since the resumption.  A semi might have come his way but maybe not with Manchester clubs involved.

Ah, just seen your comment about Dean Readingfan.  You beat me to it

Giving it to someone who has already done it means that sometime in the future someone who would have got it will miss out.  Would you prefer to miss out on doing it at all or miss out on doing it with a crowd?
