Think Taylor/Oliver will get the semi finals and I think because of his FIFA badge Pawson the final. I think the FA will do that to enhance a possible promotion to Elite

Very surprised; Martin Atkinson refereed Wolves in the last round of the competition at Bristol City, Andre Marriner also refereed Man City in the previous round at Newport  and Kevin Friend gets a middle and a 4thO appointment, just a day later. Methinks that Kevin is now the favourite for the FACF in May !.

I am sure someone will be able to tell us whether having a 6th round tie means it is more or less likely that Kevin Friend will get the Final this year. I hope he does, with Craig Pawson held over for another year. Good appointment for Chris Kavanagh who will no doubt be in line for a Final appointment himself before long.

I wouldn't complain too much about any of them getting cup QF appointments - personally I think that Dean/Oliver have probably been the best two referees across the season so I would give them the FA Cup SFs.

Will be interesting to see if VAR is used at all four matches or just at Watford/Wolves.

Interesting appointments given that the 5 Premier League games this weekend go to Dean, Oliver, Moss,Taylor and Oliver.

The heavy artillery out in force.

Those who do not understand how it works are bound to pick up that Messrs Mason and Tierney get boards and link it to what happened at the weekend

Shows that at this stage of the season the PL is perceived as more important. One FIFA ref (our most recent), one ex FIFA ref plus Friend and Scott (who also gets the Monday night FL game!)
As pleased as I am with the Trophy and Vase appointments these leave me underwhelmed

Not Necesarilly, We Have Two of Our Top Officials In Marriner And Atkinson, A Fifa Ref In Kavanagh, And Kevin Friend Has Had A Fairly Solid Season, So It’s Not A Weak Set Of  Appointments considering It’s The Weakest Fa Cup Quarter Finals Iv’e Seen For Some Time.

Not sure that I agree with this - all four of them have had 'big' appointments in the Premier League this season and Atkinson and Marriner have had multiple big head to head games.

I would guess that Oliver is virtually guaranteed to get a semi-final, probably alongside either Taylor or Dean.

I do not have a gripe with any of the appointments that have been made. I do however have a problem with the use of VAR. it should be available at all the games or none of the games. It is completely unfair to offer the opportunity of a mistake made right to four of the teams and the same opportunity not available to the other four teams. Particularly now at the quarterfinals stage. Only 4 games. The two all premier league games both have VAR. the two with Championship teams at home do not have it. I don’t know whether only PL teams have everything that is needed. If that is the case then all four games should not have VAR. All the games or none of the games.

I would have also put Kavanagh on an VAR officiating game in the middle. Reason being is that we have a few issues with our FIFA officials apparently inexperienced to work with VAR in European games, and the more exposure is essential seeing as most of the other top nations are fluent in it ( unless you are named Irrati). 😳

I don't agree with the frequent suggestion that no games with VAR is better than some games with VAR. Everton went out of the FA Cup in a game where a handball was missed by the officials - the goal would obviously have been disallowed with VAR. I d on't see that it makes any difference to Everton what happens after that.

I think that VAR should be used as much as possible and its use is necessary at this point in the process - I don't think it would be reasonable to introduce it full-time to the Premier League without English officials ever having used the system before in a competitive game. To this end though I do think VAR should have been used at all four FA Cup quarter-finals considering all quarter-final/semi-final games in the League Cup had VAR, even though two of them were played at non-Premier League grounds. (I suppose some might make the argument at this stage that it is 'unfair' to change the policy of only using it at Premier League grounds so late in the competition.)

The one point I would make, as I have done before, is that I think retrospective punishment should be taken in situations where a referee does not administer a red card in a non-VAR game where there is a high probability the VAR would have altered that decision and led to a red card being shown. This would ensure an equality in any suspensions subsequently served. I do think the stance that incidents cannot be re-refereed after the game if the officials have seen the incident is outdated in an era of VAR.

I am with you Reading Fan.  Similarly just because not all games in the fourth round could have FIFA referees there would be no reason to exclude all FIFA referees until later in the competition.  Just use the best tools available.  (And no, I didn't have anyone in particular in mind when I used the word tool.  :o)
