Disgusting behaviour from the Yeovil fans at Haringey. If found guilty the FA should sling them out of the competition without hesitation and ban them for five years at least.

If we can't get to the grass roots of this disgraceful behaviour and the punishments levied appropriately and severe,
there is no chance of dealing with it internationally.

‘The Yeovil fans’?

More like ‘a Yeovil fan’.

How do you know it’s only 1 fan?

I don't, but I bet it's closer than 'The Yeovil fans', which is a sweeping generalisation.

Perhaps we could settle on "some of the Yeovil fans" and stop the pedantry.

Having had the unfortunate pleasure of dealing with Yeovil fans in the past, I think the correspondent was probably right. Not all of them of course, but my guess would be a dozen or more

Pedantry maybe, but throwaway comments like that can give a whole fanbase an undeserved bad reputation.

Pedantry maybe, but throwaway comments like that can give a whole fanbase an undeserved bad reputation.

After thinking about my post and the reports I've read:

1) If it was one person I think they would have been identified and "asked" to leave the ground, if not arrested.

2) The fact that the Yeovil players and management were so quick to endorse their opponents actions suggest to me that it wasn't one or two, but indeed a few, causing an issue and they are fed up with it. That is not to poo poo Yeovil's actions in supporting the home side but if it had been a "one off" (a "one off" to many" of course) they may have been a bit more shocked

3) The FA Cup does bring out the idiots, one thinks of the trouble Boreham Wood have had in the past with their "supporters" in the FA Cup 1st round over the years (a team that gets a couple of hundred but over a thousand for their big games), although not with racist intent that has been reported this time, so I would usually give the benefit of doubt to a supporter base as a whole. However this was an away game, and they have been known to be trouble at home, again not all but a sizeable number, so I have no sympathies with them.

Why should a team be thrown out of a competition because of 6 idiots? (I have read another forum with someone who was at the fixture)

We rid the game by going through due process and the courts whether that be spectator or player.

And what happens when they do it again?? Obviously nobody knows if they will, but we have to set a precedent. If people and clubs know what the ultimate sanction will be it might make some people think twice.
Deterrent. Punishment. Learning.

Absolutely agree. Deal with those responsible through the courts. If found guilty they automatically get a Football banning order so unlikely to see or hear from them again. It is not the fault of the Yeovil players or the club itself. They cannot be faulted for what occurred and must be praised for their action. Throwing a team out of a competition because of 2 (that's how many have been arrested so far) idiots is not fair on the 200 or so other Yeovil fans, players and the club  itself. If the racial actions had come from a player I would whole heartedly agree with you and would expect that Yeovil would have forfeited the tie.
