with all due respect to Marc Edwards, a 1st year ref getting a 4th round tie is a bit extreme to be honest in my opinion

Friend for us at the Etihad...some refreshing alternatives to the usual pairings and some SG2 assistants get to have VAR assistance at Newcastle.

Huge congratulations to Marc Edwards - completely unexpected to see a first year get a fourth round tie but surely a great reward for an excellent start to his FL career!

In other news, all 3 potential PL promotion candidates have matches. England getting a live match, Robinson with tenants against landlords and Jones with another opportunity to use VAR at a PL ground. Decent appointments for them IMO!

Oliver at the turf for the big game.... is there any need for him to ref this game?  Ian Hussin back to back Fa cup games too.

Interesting appointment for Shrewsbury v Liverpool

Wonder if anyone will remember one of the officials was on Shrewsbury's books as a 14/15 year old?

Would this be the first time they have been involved with a Shrewsbury game? If so, a potential query. If not, a non story.
Interesting you make it your first contribution to the site - welcome nonetheless

Commented occasionally on the old site. It is a non story as it was so long ago but was just  surprised at the appointment as first time we have had them. Would prefer it if a current player as might give us a chance of a draw rather than the hammering we will get 😂😂😂

Michael Oliver has Wolves v Liverpool on Thursday followed by Burnley v Norwich on Saturday. The players wouldn’t be expected to do that so why are referees?

Most Premier League clubs were expected to do exactly that over Christmas.

And unless their game at Blackpool has been moved, Tranmere might have to do it this week.

I imagine he will be in the crowd to see his beloved Rovers (and Lee Mason) in action before heading to the Heathrow bunker for Monday night duties  ;D

Not if you saw him Shrewsbury v Rotherham. I've very seldom seen a referee put less effort into a game, can't even say if he has a sprint and wouldn't recognise him as he never got out wide enough to be seen.  He failed to caution for two blatant trips to prevent breakaways and turned his back nm play while the keeper was kicking from hand, allowing the forward to foul him with impunity. I would love to see the observer's report.  Very surprised as I understand he is from the North East where they generally produce far better.
