Re Argyle pen not given - I heard it was thought it hit Watts in the armpit. But I was equally resigned. On the flip side, Mayor seemed to be pushed over in the box near the end, but no evidence of a VAR review.

Gillet’s live verdict in a strong Aussie accent made me think for a moment I was watching an umpire review in a test match !

I cant see how that hit his armpit at all. Clear forearm for me - should have been a pen.

Am I missing something or are they giving access to VAR audio now?

IMO, Michael Oliver's award for Leicester was dubious to say the least. Oliver's positioning is exemplary, but for me, sometimes he is too quick with the whistle.

I thought he was quick on the whistle on a couple of occasions when a (potential) advantage could have been played. That said he did play some good advantages as well. Didn't have a problem with the penalty having seen the replays. It looked like a clip on the ankle from behind, which is often not as easy to spot as the trip in front of the attacker's leg.  For me, it was significant that the offender showed no dissent and from his expression he looked resigned to the decision.

There might have been another couple of YC's, but with the morning's snow it couldn't have been the easiest surface despite the pitch looking in decent condition.  Maybe Oliver took that into account.  Overall, I felt he refereed an entertaining game well.

My understanding was that the tv commentators can hear what the VAR says but not the referee.  Both Sky and BT have mentioned this.  In this instance, I just wonder if someone pressed a wrong button and the VAR comments were broadcast by mistake.

But this is why a little bit of audio from the var (it doesn’t have to be the whole Convo with the ref it can be as the final decision is being madel) would do two things. It would help explain why a decision has/hasn’t been made and secondly it is likely to make fans more aware of the actual laws. When Jarred said green zone you now know why it wasn’t awarded as a penalty and it takes away the doubt. I doubt fans know about green zone but if they heard that they are likely to know and fans will have a better understanding. It works in other sports that has technology so why won’t it work in football.
