4O appointments for SG2s Robert Jones and Darren England, perhaps indicating possible promotion at the end of the season. Otherwise all SG1 as is the tradition from R5 on.

Great appointment for Kavanagh- but this is the round it gets silly on the VAR front only being used in selective games- and Arsenal and both Manchester clubs on their travels without it. Surely it has to be either IN or OUT

Surely 'all in' would be impractical on cost and installation time grounds, and 'all out' would raise objections from those playing at grounds where it is available? Unless and until VAR reaches the Extra Preliminary Round there will always be a junction point, all that will change over time is where this is. And after all it is no more than an additional resource not a requirement (ducks for cover).

They manage to use it in the Champions League Ukraine for one I believe don't have it in their domestic League according to the article below

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_assistant_referee#Domestic_leagues

Though I assume in the Champions League VAR is at the ground rather than like here at Stockley Park. I agree though it should be in all games rather than those just at PL grounds.

There are a couple of mobile units available. VAR in the back of a transit/Luton van basically that is parked away from the ground somewhere safe, probably at the FA headquarters or similar type of place.

Extremely unsurprising appointments. The days when an up and coming referee could break through the ranks and get a 5th Round match are long over.

Coote back to Boards which may be more of a comfort to him ( not to mention onfield referees and teams ) than playing with the VAR machines.

Pawson,
Tierney,
Kavanagh

All contenders for the final?

Personally, think Pawson will get it.

Pawson is the most senior of the referees who haven't had the FA Cup Final. However, he's from Sheffield I believe and both Sheffield clubs are still in the Cup. If neither the Owls or Blades reach the Final, then I would expect Pawson to get it.

I agree rob jones and Darren England for promotion and var should be available at all grounds from the 3rd rd onwards and not in places where it isn’t

Makes more sense not to use it until the semis IMO.

There are 32 games in the 3rd round proper, even with games staggered over three days they couldn't possibly use VAR on that number of games.  The VAR room isn't big enough, wouldn't have enough monitors, and they wouldn't have enough officials either.

I would agree that these are the likely contenders ( barring accidents ) for the next three FA cup Finals with Pawson ( geography permitting ) getting it this year. It is perhaps possible that Attwell might get the Final before Kavanagh and Tierney, a moot point that I think.
