The new FIFA refs both get a quarter-final then.

A bit surprised there's no VAR yet?

It's odd that last year it was used from the second round, but this year it's not being used till the semi finals.

A sure indication of the low value now put on this competition when one looks at the appointment of both referee and 4th official at Villa Park 😳

Why? Lee is a vastly experience referee who has been refereeing premier league teams for over a decade. Alright his career maybe slowly on the wane but he is still good enough to get cup quarter finals!

You think so? Each to his or her own and I respect your view but I know many in here would not necessarily agree

Nice to see Madley and Coote appear at this stage of the competition - decent experience for the new FIFA pair!

I am sure Mason will adequately take charge of Villa reserves vs the bootroom assistant, cleaner, cook and bar staff with an occassional youth team player thrown in
(I am sure FIFA have stressed the importance of sending the best side to CWC and Liverpool will be rewarded handsomely)

Didn’t Mason referee Villa at Villa Park in the last round and for their recently premier league match at home to Newcastle.

I think Alan Young would have just about coped with the game at Villa Park given how docile some of the fouls were.
