Good game for Tierney. I think this season is one for him to hopefully kick on after a good steady season last year.

Good game for England too.

Marriner a safe pair of hands at Anfield.

Interesting to see Chris Kavanagh's usual assistants with Andre

Mason gets a decent derby cup tie too... 😳

I have to say I think it’s scandalous that Sky have prioritised the big teams again, and as a result both ties are on the same night.

Given Burton were semi finalists last year they may cause an upset v Leicester. I would rather watch that than Liverpool reserves v Arsenal reserves!!

As Burton are visiting BBC sponsored Salford in the first round of the FA Cup, they may have been omitted from the EFL Cup schedule... ::)

Great for Paul Tierney - he really needs to establish himself this season as a referee for the top encounters so this is an excellent opportunity.

As for Simpson, I can think of (several) other SG2 referees I would've preferred on our game!

Least he hasn't got to worry about removing his EFL badge from his kit anytime soon!!

At least 19 of them! What do the powers that be see in him? Beats me

Simpson or Davies... what a conundrum!

I guess Sunderland would have preferred Simpson to the dross that Martin produced last night at Oxford.

I was just about to post how disappointed I was with the penalty call especially after my reservations over Simpson earlier in the week! Shows you must be careful what you wish for!
