The other appointments will be released next Monday as the fixtures don’t take place until 13th August

As for this match, good to see Neil Hair being given the opportunity to referee a championship side on TV

Has there been any indication as to the use of VAR in this competition this season? Will it again be Premier League grounds predominantly?

Great appointments for both Swabey and Wright.

Coggins at Home Park, can't admit I know a lot about him. I have seen a few negative comments on here in the past, however.

I saw somewhere that it would be used in both legs of the semis and the Final only. I think that is a fairer situation than the one that currently applies in the FA Cup.

I would be quite surprised if they chose not to use VAR at all at PL grounds that use it routinely week in week out. I'm not sure only using it for the semis and the final would make much sense because if you subscribe to the all or nothing viewpoint (which I don't) then that doesn't achieve it either.

Bury’s tie at Sheffield Wednesday is the latest match to be “suspended”.

They have until the 23rd August to meet the demands of the EFL otherwise it is goodbye.

... who gave the small matter of four penalties!

They all looked to be correct decisions though.

I did actually think that they were all correct but some of the other decisions during the game were pure Mr Kettle!

The last one looked a tad dodgy....

Kettle is still prone to excessive maverick tendencies at time, and quite how he has lasted as long as he has done is probably well documented.

However his games in recent times haven't been the card fests that we've seen from him in the past, when he has hit the magic double digits in cards during games where he loses the plot.

I'm sure nemesis is looking forward to his return to Portman Road this season with anticipation.
