I'd argue that if they can get things right and devoid of errors as far as possible in as many games as possible they should go for that and that all teams know the regulations in advance now - it is just that it's 'VAR will be used at any match at a PL ground' rather than 'VAR will be used at the final'.

On a similar theme, the Carabao Cup Final yesterday had extra-time built-in before a potential penalty shoot-out, which isn't the case in earlier rounds.

What a pleasure to watch Chelsea v Liverpool last night. A full-bloodied entertaining game, good refereeing from Chris Kavanagh and his team, and no VAR (I missed a bit of it but didn't see any references to VAR in the  remainder). Well done!

Just one occasion around midway through the first half when Van Dijk ang Giroud (I think) were having a full on 9 on 5 battle which CK gave as a defensive free kick but then there was a delay as apparently VAR were checking for Serious Foul Play. Not sure who was supposed to have committed it as they didn't show the replays obviously.

Ah yes, I think it was to do with a high boot from Giroud which caught Van Dijk and was checked as possible SFP. However I recall that the commentator suggested that Van Dijk told Kavanagh to forget VAR and get on with the game, which was good, as it was never SFP.
