After bursting onto the scene AB has been a bit of a slow burner - I like his style

Agreed. I saw AB in his early days at Crewe Alex and liked his style as well. I think he let himself down in the past with a few very strange / duff decisions, but it seems that this was the past and he has moved on to become a good referee fully deserving of this appointment and maybe promotion to SG2. I wish him and his team well.
