Marriner has a game on the Friday night after officiating on the Wednesday night at Newcastle. Doesn't seem like the best planning, especially considering he must be one of the older referees.

A few officials doing two VAR games on the same day.

I don't see why they don't use VAR for the games officiated by Madley/Brooks considering they are at Premier League grounds - hopefully Madley will be on the Premier League next season, in which case he'll be using VAR anyway so he would benefit from the experience as much as anyone.

Games for PL teams assigned to Brooks, Madley, Langford and Bankes. I guess with VAR appointments too the choices for fourth official are not normally what we would expect.

At least Ipswich have one of the best NL referees for their tie after the Xmas appointments!

Why oh why oh why does Man Utd v Reading need to be a live game? Middle of the table premier league team v middle of the table Championship team. Typical unimaginative scheduling from tv companies who can’t seem to see past the poor relations of Manchester

I wish we were middle of the table!

I think the simple answer is that more people will probably watch Manchester United than pretty much any other English team.

Dean Whitestone the only referee outside of select groups? I know Ross Joyce is in name atm but he has now had SG2 games
I didnt see any assistants from national list (although I could be wrong)

Quite right and Dean Whitestone certainly should be in a Select Group. Far, far better than some of the moderate SG2 and up with some of the lesser SG1 in my view.

I understand Man Utd are supposedly popular but just shows lack of imagination. Had it been at Reading, maybe ok
Rest of the games on TV look pretty good

A year ago, when Man Utd's FA Cup tie with Derby was NOT televised live that ended a run of FIFTY EIGHT consecutive Man Utd FA Cup ties shown live.

Pick of the games for me is for Andy Madley at Chelsea, well deserved. Any idea why this fixture hasn't got VAR despite being at a Premier League Ground.

It would appear that it needs to be both a Prem ground and a Prem ref (exposure to system i assume will be the reasoning), although it would make sense to include SG2 refs in any training

I would agree with you, especially someone who has just refereed two Premier League games and would seem a leading candidate to (finally) be promoted to the SG next season.

I would have thought training and experience would be more necessary for the person acting as VAR because it's quite a distinct role, whereas I'm not sure refereeing with VAR is 'that' much different to refereeing without it. Of course, a referee needs to be given some guidance beforehand and has to consider aspects such as not blowing too quickly for an offside in case it needs to be reviewed but I wouldn't have thought it would take months of preparation for someone to officiate a game with VAR.
