Has Andre Marriner got over the illness which prevented him refereeing at Shrewsbury on Sunday? I don't imagine he will be too happy if a bug prevents him from refereeing two big games in quick succession.

Kevin Friend will now referee the second leg between Manchester City and Manchester United.

The same Kevin Friend who refereed Man City v Fulham 3 days ago?

Guess with FIFA referees all away and Mariner unwell they are very, very short on options.

Yeah, Atkinson only refereed last night and Dean tonight. Moss is doing West Ham V Liverpool and refereed Man Utd last Wednesday anyway. Mason refereed Man City last midweek and Man Utd at the weekend. Hooper and Bankes probably too inexperienced.

I think Scott was the only other option and even he did Man City just 10 days ago. And perhaps he's under consideration for the final? They were lucky it wasn't Leicester playing tomorrow as Friend can't referee them!

Does Villas involvement now possibly rule Attwell out for consideration for the Final? Nuneaton to Villa Park is close. Has he refereed Villa games in the past?

I know the commentator reported an illness but maybe it’s an injury - he has replaced Friend as VAR for West Ham v Liverpool tomorrow and also has a VAR appointment this weekend.

I must say I was very unimpressed and disappointed by Kevin friends handling of the game at the etihad. Some very bemusing decisions, and a very harsh second yellow for matic. No consistency in cautions and fouls being awarded.

I think 2 issues did for Matic.  Firstly, he was on a final warning, Friend having made that clear to the captain, Maguire.
Secondly, although the shove by Matic was fairly mild for the 2nd YC, it did prevent a counter attack by City.

Even as a United supporter, I would have been surprised had he not been sent off.

That said, I wasn't overly impressed by Friend's performance either, and agree about the inconsistency.

I thought Friend had a pretty good game; he let it flow generally which contributed to the match, and I thought the red card was a reasonable decision.

It must be quite unusual for the same referee to have sent off two away players at the same stadium in the space of four days!

Dean getting two semi-finals shows how good he is. I wonder if they hadn't planned ahead from the first legs because it was a bit surprising that neither Oliver or Taylor were used then if they weren't available for the second.

I presume VAR will be used again, probably Atkinson and Mason considering the other appointments.

I think Tierney has a decent chance for the final.

Agreed I think it will be Tierney, and Coote on 4th official

I think Mason might stand a good chance!!

...and your prize is..... Now could you let me know the lottery numbers for Wednesday please. ;D

I am not that good, Mason is liked by the EFL, he did the champiosnhip play off final a few years ago plus most others have done it.  I think had Bobby Madley been around it would have been his.
