Considering Klopp Mostly plays a second string side in cups anyway, I find this rather odd, Besides he’ll probably complain about fixture congestion if they decide to play in a few weeks.

I was initially surprised they'd asked for the game to be postponed but then someone pointed out that they're unlikely to win the PL now, so this competition might have taken on more importance for them.

Presumably they would use the next two midweeks to play the games.

As for the final, I was thinking Kavanagh initially but Attwell could be a good shout - although might not be popular with Arsenal!

The FA Cup final is also interesting - I think many of us had Pawson as the favourite for 19/20 before Covid changed everything so I always had him in my mind to referee the first FA Cup final with a full stadium again. But Paul Tierney has got more of the top games in the PL so perhaps also has a decent chance?

I would be very surprised if Liverpool semi goes ahead as this then gives question marks over the fa cup tie on Sunday against Shrewsbury possibly being a 1 legged semi due to fixture congestion and the fa cup tie being rescheduled for when the 4th rd ties take place? any thoughts

I still think Pawson will get the fa final, Getting Top Games Doesn’t usually determine the cup final referee (See Moss, Probert, etc) plus he’s had to wait so long for it, it just makes sense.

Arsenal vs Liverpool has been postponed!

Oliver now won't be able to do the re-arranged game as he'll be away with FIFA, so unless he gets appointed to next week's fixture instead, his wait for a League Cup appearance will go on!

Liverpool have requested postponement of the tie to the EFL today.

The Football League are investigating their request.

Really don't get this.  If it is postponed it will have to be played in the next 4 weeks and they just won't have bandwidth to do it.  They had similar with the World Club Championship and played a reserve / youth team. struggling to see why they don't do the same here.

It's ridiculous......didn't Orient get kicked out for not fielding a team against Spurs!!

Liverpool should get the boot too!!!!!

I believe they were kicked out because they couldnt fulfill the fixture prior to the dates for the next round.
In this case Liverpool have until end of feb, ie when the final is due to be played.

With regard to Oliver’s wait, i believe he was earmarked for a semi second leg last season but eufa had a seminar
Ruling out all our eufa refs, mike dean ended up with a game in each leg of the semis, so he refereed all 4 semi finalists.

They won't have until the end of February as they will need at least a couple of weeks to sort out things like ticketing arrangements, marketing material, etc.  They will want it played by the end of January.

Why on earth there needs to be a two-legged semi final in the league cup is beyond me.

Come on ryan80, it's obvious! It is just another excuse for managers, players, tea ladies et al to moan like mad about the number of fixtures that they have to fuflil. No doubt messrs Klopp, Artete, Conte and Tuchel will sound off at some stage about this --probably just before their club embarks on a close season tour of exotic places to make more money!
Referee's decision used to be final!

I think the EFL had to pay Sky quite a significant rebate last season due to the semi finals only being 1 leg instead of 2. Presumably similar would have happened if Liverpool hadn't been able to play at all. If the EFL can be financially compensated for reverting to 1 leg then maybe it will happen one day but I'm sure they're not willingly just going to lose the money.

I'm not sure that's quite right - the first leg is now at Anfield on 13th January. The second leg will be at Arsenal on 20th but, as mentioned, I thought Oliver was at a FIFA seminar from 17-21 Jan?
