Although it's hard to see the appointment given on merit I hope he has a very good match because if he doesn't, it will be the two Clubs and their players as well as the paying supporters who will suffer and they are not responsible for the appointment.

May i remind you of a quote from former head of pgmol.

Quote “ Managing Director Mike Riley added “Just as importantly, I would like to express my gratitude to Peter and David who have volunteered to step down from the Men’s Referees List in order to create the opportunities for John, Jarred and Rob. This is incredibly selfless of them and typical of the values that make them the great ambassadors for refereeing that they are.”

Unquote.

I think Coote’s “performance” yesterday summarises all we have been saying. Enough said.

All of you Coote bashers you ought to be ashamed of yourselves. Call yourselves referees!!! It's Disgusting and Disgraceful. I know him personally and let me tell you now the fb page is fake and he is no man u fan. Let a referee enjoy his appointment and start looking at your own games past or present. It's Bullying and needs to be stopped as admins are how long they are letting this go on for too long and encouraging this behaviour is beyond me.

Well said thesensibleone - I too have known David since he was 15. He used run the line to me. Then as he went through the system me to him.  A well known Notts County supporter ever since I have known him. I have been watching David games from age 15. He was my RDO at Notts FA. He helped me and many other referees in Notts (and Manchester), to fulfil our potential as referees. I will be forever grateful. I class him as a true friend.

I agree some of these comments on here are bullying. Good luck on your final David, in my opinion this was received on merit. Premier league referees are appointed on merit. I know how hard he has had to work to achieve this level, the commitment it has taken. The real refereeing family appreciate good referees.

Yes indeed, good luck in your Final Mr Coote, I hope the ball runs kindly for you but I for one will not be deflected from offering my opinions on a match official's performance and appointment because they happen to be a personal friend of someone.

If there has been comment that Coote is biased in favour of one of the teams in the Final then that is disgraceful and should rightly be called out.

If Coote has an excellent game tomorrow then I will gladly say so; if I think he has a stinker then then I won't hesitate to say so even if that causes his friends to call me a "basher"

Whistleblower, I agreed with nearly everything you said, until you used the word “biased”. The most over used word to describe referees on here. Oh well, your are entitled to your opinion about biased referees even if it devalues your argument IMO.

Refs1, I think you have misread WB's post.
At no point does he refer to DC's bias; in fact, calls out anyone who uses that as an argument.

I agree you dont get to SG1 if you are poor but is DC the best performing referee yet to do the game? IMHO NO!
I believe he has been rewarded for his actions away from the pitch.

This said, I hope all goes well as it does nothing to help any referees if all that is talked of after is him or indeed VAR.

Thank you for clarifying that RCG. For the avoidance of any doubt I was not accusing Coote or any referee of bias. I was in fact calling out unwarranted accusations of bias.

We are not encouraging anything, people are entitled to their opinions on certain officials, if they cross the line and become personal then we will intervene, bear in mind we cannot be on here all the time as we have lives of our own.

Thank you refs1.  Re-reading my post I can  see how the opposite interpretation to what I intended could quite reasonably be arrived at. Oh, the vagaries of English grammar, I shall endeavour to express myself more unequivocally in future .

I appreciate your apologies and assure you they are unnecessary.

When one writes something down one always reads it as one thinks of it from their own perspective, it is always difficult to immediately see it from anothers perspective, i know i have fallen foul many times whistleblower. Oh the vagaries of the written word.
Is it say what you mean or mean what you say.
