Sam Barrett. Rather easy game to referee but impressed with his fitness, decision making and consistency.

Liverpool fans are not big fans of Coote as most associate him with the Merseyside Derby Var fiasco where he as VAR missed the clear red card for Pickford so this is an interesting one. His performances gave merited a big game this season tho!

David Coote! Dear God. On what planet does he deserve this. The worst referee in the league with the biggest tie of the round, what a joke.

It’s not even just that game, it’s almost every Liverpool game Coote has been involved in. Tierney doesn’t exactly have a good reputation either.

Coote has been much better this year and has improved a lot. Tierney has also been much better this year. I do think Coote was next in line for a big game. Only other option would've been Gillett if giving to less experienced refs

I am not sure that I would agree that a match between two reserve teams is the biggest of the round.

John Brooks seems to be at Newcastle now rather than Peter Bankes.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see strong team selections, seeing it’s the first competitive game for over a month

They would be using the PA that don't always have the latest changes.

John Brooks is the referee on the teamsheet.

The BBC are rubbish at picking up on referee changes, they very rarely notice haha.
