Fairly easy game for the Slovenian referee to officiate as it is woefully one sided so far.
Two incidents the referee had to adjudicate on, a yellow card for a clear shirt pull by a San Marino player - nailed on.
Then a volley by Foden was clearly handled by a San Marino player in the penalty area. The hand was high in the air as though he was appealing for offside, which it clearly wasn’t. There was a modest appeal by the England players and the decision was referred to the ubiquitous VAR.
It must have taken nearly four minutes for the referee to decide it was a deliberate handball, with the unnecessary viewing of the pitchside monitor. To me, it looked very obvious. Eventually the referee pointed to the spot and cautioned the San Marino player.
Another penalty for handball for England as I write, this one just as clear cut. Arm in unnatural position and knocked away the header. Given without recourse to the VAR and correctly so, with another yellow card administered.
FIFA really do need to look at the quality of these teams that get pummelled every time they play and here, England are 6-0 up before half time. If it was a cricket match, England would declare and enforce the follow on. A nonsense of a game.
As an aside, Mr. Obrenovic looks like a hybrid of Jeff Winter and Jarred Gillett.....both of those gentlemen would find this game a doddle to officiate too.
Even Hackett today could referee this match….
I agree about the standard of teams… something needs to be done.
……but Mason probably not!
As an aside great to see Harry back to his brilliant best scoring goals ( inc the obligatory penalty or 2) against such quality opposition, especially after his heroics against Albania sheep farmers, postmen and grave diggers. Those records just keep tumbling by the minute.
Quality teams must be quaking in their boots
