Has the European Conference League worked?
« on: Fri 18 Mar 2022 09:40 »
This week saw the European Cups reach the last 8 stage. The Conference league was heralded as a way of giving more nations, more chance of European football.
Has this materialised in the final 8?

2 strong Dutch teams, both with European pedigree, 1 from France, England and Italy.
Norway, Greece and Czech Rep make up the nations involved.

Credit to the last 3 although the Greeks and the Czechs used to regular have teams in at least the group stages of CL. The Norweigan team probably the only one ploughing a new furrow.

Factor is the CL and EL representation and you get:
England 5
Spain 4
Germany 3
Portugal 2
Italy 2
France 2
Netherlands 2
Scotland, Norway, Czech Rep and Greece 1

Only 2 countries east of Germany, only 1 from Scandanavia
Only 4 nations represented in CL QFs

Not sure how the Albanian crowd will get too excited about the Conf League final.

Not sure how I feel about really.  None of our clubs lasted any longer than usual & the club that lasted the longest started in the CL & went into the EL. I'm sure it was only invented as another money making scheme & to help prevent the 3rd/4th based teams in the big nations from lowering themselves to meet some unworthy nations champions in the CL!

They'd do better to actually have the CL for Champions imo, it's a mockery of its own name when smaller nations champions have to go through a whole qualifying process and the big nations get 3/4 teams automatically qualifying for it. If anything all the excess big nations teams should have to be the ones going through the qualifying process because they're not champions & the smaller nations champions actually automatically qualify for the tournament.
Hajrá Lilák. Csak a Kispest. Hajrá Magyarok! Hajrá játékvezetői csapat! Soha ne add fel. Nincs sárga kérem!!! No Chris Kavanagh doesn't live in Ashton or even in the Greater Manchester area!!

Any competition that sees Mourinho well and truly embarrassed 6-1 at the Aspmyra Stadion is automatically an excellent idea in my book
