Covid
« on: Fri 17 Dec 2021 16:27 »
I've read in the press that 1 in 4 PL players have refused any form of vaccination against Covid. Assuming that this is correct, or near enough correct, what are these players thinking about? Do they think they're immune to Covid as elite athletes and what sort of example do they think they're setting to their adoring fans? No wonder so many games are being called off now! OK, it may be a bit late to start now, but better late than never and players can always promote themselves being vaccinated in the media to encourage others to do the same. If you want to be a hospital statistic, as well as a burden to the NHS, then fine, I'm all for choice. Otherwise get a life and get vaccinated. There, rant over!

I'm surprised the figure is that high.

I do think that people should have the choice, I don't believe people should be forced into it but on the flip side I simply can't understand people not wanting to protect themselves or their family, it seems a no brainer to me. Even without considering the impact & burden on the NHS. Vaccinations don't stop you from getting it but they can make a huge difference to how seriously you suffer from it.  One of my friends, who is a teacher has recently caught it & he is double vaxxed.  Thankfully he has not needed hospital care but he's been very poorly.

I had my booster on Friday and felt rotten for 24hours. However, I would urge everyone to get that booster. I’m on the mend now!

24 hours of rottenness is a small price to pay for mitigating the risk of hospitalisation.

In terms of the season, they must cancel it for a few weeks, extend it past May where the conditions are warmer and less prevalent to covid in cold weather climates.

There will be considerable push back against any extensions given the (ridiculous) 4 games to be played in Nations League before early season start to facilitate (the even more ridiculous) winter world cup

Nations League may be ridiculous to the big teams but for the small teams it's huge.  Hungary qualified for the Euros 2020/1 via the Nations League.  Winter World cup is ridiculous - we have decided not to partake in it!

We have our winter beak now for 5 weeks so that helps, no need to suspend the league as we're on a break now anyway. (or will be in about 3 hours time)

The Nations League is not ridiculous and I apologise if it came across like that.
What is ridicilous is the necessity to play 4 rounds of games in June at the end of a other long season for all European players

They won't be able to extend the season, there just isn't time.  If the clubs get their 2 week circuit break that they seemingly want (aka Christmas off 😂) they will just have more games to play in the remainder of the season.  I then forsee complaints that players are getting injured due to having to play three times a week.

Of course, if other countries also have to suspend their seasons there will have to be discussions around moving the Summer Nations League games and / or The World Cup, but at the moment England are the only of the major nations to have been affected.

I personally don't see what a circuit break will achieve - come 2 weeks time, there will still be teams likely affected by this variatn given its apparent transmisibility and therefore matches will stilllikely be called off!

There are only two scheduled full midweek programmes in League One and League Two after the New Year. I know postponements and rearranged fixtures will come into it, but there are still around a dozen free midweeks for the lower divisions as we stand.

That said, I want to be playing now, not then, if it's possible.

I meant the Premier League, wasn't aware EFL clubs had asked for a break.

Might be a good time to start looking at whether there should be a winter break in England, like we do in mainland Europe

Sorry, I wasn't answering that point specifically, but just addressing something they were waffling on about on the radio yesterday.

Headline in our local online 'rag':

Johnson: "playing over Christmas is all part of the job"

Am I alone in not realising at first that this was referring to Crewe Alex player Travis Johnson?
